Chronicles of a Trickster

9. The Cruelest Trick Ever Devised

There has been much talk let alone mention about Coyote. To Lillian, he is the greatest thing that has ever happened to her, the teacher of the special tricks and logical epitaphs that can even bring even the most skilled and taught hero down to their knees but the relationship between the fledgling trickster and the legendary spirit takes a turn that for the first time stripped him of his title and destroyed the life of Launa's free spirit. The first and only marriage of Lillian Viander and Coyote was as wondrous in its rise as it is disastrous in its fall.

Coyote the famed legend of Native American culture has made a serious name for himself doing what it loves best against the young members of various tribes that worship him and often lays down the law that tries to pull a fast one on him but now and then understands he often doesn't want to waste his time with the mortals until one day he came across the gathering of of legends and spots his eyes on a young (in appearance) Lillian who just came fresh from her trials to rise to the ranks of the worlds known mythological beings known to be themselves tricksters and often times bringers of Chaos. To see a mere mortal rise to those ranks and talking with her newly gained friend Anansi. Coyote makes his move to meet with the new girl on the block and with his whim and charms knowing full well that dealing with mortals was the last thing he needs.

Lillian was in a sense young and well-learned from her world exploits and her own set of games against the mortals well enough the gain their attention to see if she was worthy enough and by their standards she was. Before anyone can know it Launa was swept under Coyote and the two of them hit it off. For the last fifty years Coyote shared his teachings with Lillian even lets her have her share of the fun. As the time moved on Coyote's little plan proved to him that in time Lillian would soon prove too powerful for him in the future and that is something that he will not stand but still he flays himself onto Lillian's wants and needs until it is time to strike.

She was fully unaware of what was going on with him but to her view it was the greatest thing that has ever happened to her since she has never known. Anansi was the first to suspect why Coyote became so infatuated with Lillian so abruptly and stood for so long but as far as not to drive suspicion Anansi kept an eye on the both of them. For the last one-hundred fifty years everything seemed to go well as if they were the perfect couple until he deemed Lillian now fully powered up the the point with all of her own will and Coyote's teachings. It was his moment to strike. At that day Lillian arrived back from meeting Anansi after an argument that lead left her in total anger for what he's accusing his husband of.

That came all to a crashing reality when Coyote backhanded Lillian to the ground. Shocked and covering the side of her face she was in a total malaise. Asking what did she do to even deserve such a gesture Coyote only laughed and scolded her that it was nothing more than a terrible game with her being blinded by love to not realize that the entire relationship was a scam. He scoffs at the other tricksters praising her for being better and he's setting her straight on his real intention and that is to strip her of all of her powers because he deemed her too unworthy of them even of the title of trickster was insulting to him. But before she can even demand a more real answer from him, Coyote slammed his hand into her chest and slowly with an incantation pulled out all of her powers. While he strips Lillian of her traits Coyote told her that he has been working on this incantation for years since they first met because he would rather be a pathetic mortal than to have one join their ranks.

The dark aura was finally ripped out from her body leaving her as a fair-formed, white haired female in her twenties it was a form that Lillian has seen for a long time, her real self. Coyote now assimilated the power into him and his form slowly changed. Taking on the black pelt over his multi-toned shades of brown, his musculature increased fourfold, taking on a red-eyed demonic form and decides not to kill her so-called 'lover' but decides to leave her as she is to learn her lesson, Looking at her human hands and soon feeling the shock Lillian screamed in tears to the heavens of what has happened, being human again should have been great for someone who has been cursed for centuries but for her it's the greatest tragedy she has ever experienced worse still her entire love life and marriage was nothing more than a sham because of mere jealousy.

Anansi feeling that Lillian still needs to look after refrains from his own duties to find her only to come across Coyote now but without any action to even bother him as he starts to reek havoc against local tribes for 'fun' and sometimes as retribution for the actions of their chiefs against him, Seeing his new appearance concludes of what he's done to Lillian and therefore seeks to find her. In the cold desert Lillian has her arms wrapped around herself as she wanders in a daze cold and alone not as much as what she has been through. Suddenly she was knocked down by a rogue coyote that was stalking her for hours and now wants to make its kill feeling injured and still under shock, Lillian fell to her knees and is prepared to receive her final death blow by a species who has done enough damage to her already. The deadly beast leapt right into the air wit maw wide open to make it's kill. Then Anansi rushed in to let out a demonic roar that scared the coyote away. Anansi took Lillian in despite her cries for death but he knows she was in shock so with a quick wave of his hand Anansi has put Lillian to sleep.

After days of recuperation Anansi and Lillian came to see the Great Cloud Father who oversees the tribes to plea for help with this situation as Coyote's reign of destruction has now gone beyond control but the worse news came to mind when the Great Cloud Father refused to help them but tells Lillian that if she wants to get her curse back she has to fight Coyote herself. The Great Cloud Father's decision was final as he whisked them away to where Coyote will strike next, with no plan or means to stop someone now twice as powerful as she is now She then remembered what the great cloud father said to her before being sent on location is that it is the power of the spirit within not the spirit's power that she can defeat him. Lillian needed to learn fast and Anansi is more than willing to help. As Coyote arrived now looking more powerful than ever faced his ex-wife for the first time and even mocked her for even attempting to fight him which is proven time and time again as both her and Anansi were beaten down as the onloookers watched from a distance.

With a dislocated arm, bleeding from an ear and eye that Coyote just personally removed Launa was close to the verge of death then once again she took the time to heed Great Cloud Fathers words and finally understand his meanings. Lillian stood firm and position herself to charge right at Coyote at full speed with a small dagger in her weak hand, the powerful and smug Coyote stood before her and behind a fire offering himself to use whatever futile attempt the has to stop him by allowing her to come at him. Just for laughs. Positioning herself like a football player preparing to make a blitz she concentrated with all her might and charged right at her. Leaping into the air she remembered a simple spell, The Soulstealer Spell. and moves right through him and falls right into the fire. Coyote purposely made himself intangible just to let her fall into the fire.

Coyote laughed wildly to be finally got rid of his pest and now with knuckles cracked and flames of blue erupting from the palms of his hands he will make sure that his former ally will suffer a far worse fate than her ex is going through rasing his flaming hands over his victim, Coyote is ready to incinerate Anansi. But Coyote suddenly feels different and slowly the mighty flames on his hands die out and his body slowly begins to revert back to it's original form. Coyote was quick to see that what Lillian did wasn't a means to attack him but it was one to get her powers back. From out of the flames a creature of fire walked towards Coyote as he begins to slowly grovel to his knees, knowing full well who it was. The flames cleared out revealing a body, humanoid in form but feline in appearance, the shining black pelt over a body of a maiden sporting her original clothes from the torn and ragged type is a woman reborn and a woman scorned beyond comprehension.

Blow after blow, flame attack after flame attack, tortures at conditions that make the spanish inquisition look like a cakewalk. Leaving a body badly battered, Coyote begged and Anansi pleaded Lillian to stop but she won't listen, not even after all the times were nothing but a lie, she saves the final death blow for last as she jutted out her claws and told him that he should have killed her in the first place because she isn't so merciful anymore. Charging at full speed screaming in anger Lillian is ready to kill his former lover. That is when all of time stopped for Lillian and from out of nowhere Great Cloud father arrived on scene and his expression wasn't of any mood to see Coyote. Anansi tried to answer but the god commanded him to stay quiet as he lays punishment against Coyote for his crimes and use the powers of an 'underling' to further his own malicious plans. Coyote pleads with Great Cloud Father but his excuses didn't even phase him. For his crimes he took in the suggestion of what he said to Lillian of a fate worse than death and for a powerful being like Coyote nothing could be worse than to become a de-powered, mortal human.

With a wave of his hand Great Cloud Father made Coyote vanish in thin air so he can start his new life as a mortal human and as for Lillian the same fate was also applied to her as she soon disappear from sight. Anansi then demanded where he took Lillian his only answer is to somewhere where she can 'cool down' for a while. He only wanted Lillian to get her powers back not to punish Coyote over such petty things as love and partnership. He then left the scene leaving he signs of the damaged tribal grounds some left to burn as Anansi soon left the scene himself only wishing that Lillian is safe.

Waking up slowly in the frigid atmosphere of the frozen north, Lillian looks around with no memory of how she got here but knowing her chance is ruined she furiously screamed and fell on her hands and knees, She almost had him, she wanted to give him all the pain and suffering that she went through and to feel the burn of her pain and sorrow. But for now all she can do is try to keep warm with less than protective clothes as the long walk back to Europe will be a less than pleasurable one. As for Coyote, he forever remains a "immortal" but in human form without powers until Great Cloud Father can make the death call he rues the day that he became humiliated by her former wife and swears to seek revenge the next time they meet, the feeling's the same for Lillian.
And we're back. Sorry for the delay but I was on other things while writing this and I got so much more in this series to cope with including the first two-part special "Obsession" with a line suggested by :iconmuddness:.

In this installment it talks about the rise and fall of the first and so far only marriage of Lillian and the former legendary trickster Coyote.
