Long explaination: Okay, so I lurk at this site called Fandom_Wank, which exists basically to record the silliness of fandom and its various inhabitants. No judgement shall be passed on the site, but I will say it has exposed me to some of the most incredible behavior by fans of various media. The worst are the nutbar Harry Potter fans, who seem more wrapped up in their own celebrity than the books they are supposed to be worshipping... but that's another story.

Anyway, I thought about fanworks a bit, but even now, after much thinking, I have no idea why ANYONE would want to be "known" for their fanworks as opposed to something they originally created? Don't get me wrong, fanworks are great fun, but ... they aren't your own. So I don't get the whole BNF (big name fan) thing that so many on F_W keep fighting over.

ANYWAY. Once upon a time I wrote a fanfiction. It was so much fun, and I never showed it to anyone, nor will I. It was just really enjoyable to write something where I didn't have to make up the characters or settings... hell, that was already done!

I chose a strange thing to write an fanfiction of: an old Sierra adventure game called Betrayal at Krondor, which was based on the writings of Raymond Feist. It was an AWESOME game, and I absolutely loved it... and writing the fanfiction was a great way to prolong the experience.

However, it was all done for fun, and I shall never show my little (er, well, 80 page) venture into fanfiction to anyone.

So. Here are two character from the fanfiction. Both characters from the game, although I pumped up the girl's part consideribly (as the game originally had no female characters), Owyn and Gamina (daughter of Pug the magician).

Awesome style.
I agree with you about the fanfics. It's especially nasty when some major, often tasteless warps occur in fanfics.
The Betrayal is a great game and an awesome book, despite the book being so widely critisised. It seems the majority either really like it or really dislike it. And there's Betrayal in Antara, it's sort of similar. (Midemian characters, ambushes to be avoided, etc.) And then there're the gorgeous 2nd and 3rd parts of the Riftwar Legacy. (Assasins, Tear of the Gods.) The Betrayal is my favourite though. I've just started rereading it for about the fifth time!
