Archer-class carrier refit

At the start of the first interstellar war, humanity had no dedicated carriers, so there was no way to transport fighters over long-range, except in cargo pods towed by other vessels. These were very vulnerable to attack, clumsy and limited in what fighters they could bring.
However, it quickly became apparent that star fighters were where the Terran Protectorate had a clear edge against the enemy. So, the Protectorate decided to update an old seafaring war craft design: the Carrier.

Engineers took a heavy duty bulk cargo hauler, designed for heavy upgrading and specialization, added armor, defensive weaponry, and replaced the forward cargo compartments with a sophisticated flight deck. Although light on weapons, the ability to field squadrons of fighters from carrier-based fleets turned the tide of the war. Once the first of the Archers began to see action, the Protectorate racked up victory after victory.
That was over 60 years ago, and the design was so successful, and the Protectorate made so many of them, that the ships are still in service and being refitted and refurbished to fight in the new war.
Since their glory days, the Archers have been reclassified as Escort Carriers. Although the fighter capacity of the Archers has increased, the new Liberty-Class fleet carriers are much larger and more advanced, and carry many times more fighter craft and other vehicles, including mecha, into battle. Still, the Archers are very much up to the role as Escort Carrier, which involves fleet defense, supporting ground forces and transport of extra space craft for the main carrier(s). Archers are also used extensively by Special Forces fighter squadrons.

Defenses: 2 layers of 6-inch thick Chobham Electromagnetic Reactive plates, separated by shock-absorbing sealant gel (making the armor self sealing for small breaches) over a titanium lattice frame.

Auxillary Vehicles: 4 short-range "Hopper" shuttles.

Avionics: Digital Navigational Telescope, Mass Detectors, Spectrographic Light Analysis and Electromagnetic Field Detectors make up the long-range sensors. Short-range sensors include LADAR, Radar, and Infrared Field Surveyors.

This is one of my older models, reworked with more hull detailing and "greeble" as well as a new texture, more windows and fine detailing. I wanted it to look old, but not dysfunctionally so.
