Mona Lisa Redux

Name: Mona Lisa Moretti
Nicknames: Mona or Mo (preferably), dollface (used only by Raph), babe (mostly by Mikey)
Age: 19 when she meets the TMNT, 21 when she has Eva, 31 when she has Gino
Height: 5'2
Weapon: None but will occasionally use her tail to attack when necessary.

• Mona was brought up in Little Italy, Manhattan (New York City) where her grandfather owned a pizzeria.
• Her father died when she was a baby so her mother took her to live with her grandpa Gino to help him run the business.
• For extra money, Mona's mother worked as a product tester. She went to many companies including TCRI, as a test subject for multiple products. Some included items that needed to be ingested. In one of the test rooms, someone had left traces of a strange chemical which contaminated some of the products. Unknowingly, the package of products she was told to take home to try was contaminated.
• Much of it evaporated in time but there were still significant traces left behind. Young Mona managed to touch some and then went to play with her pet anole ([link]). The contact to the reptile began almost immediately triggering a genetic mutation.
• Mona's mother had a very negative effect to the toxic substance. The mutations happening in her older body were debilitating her. No doctor could give an explanation to her sudden lapse in health. She died several months later due to multiple organ failure.
• Mona was about seven years old when her mother passed away. Her mutation was steadily increasing and was now becoming visible. Patches of skin were growing rougher and off colored, her eye color was lightening from their usual brown, and her body went through periods of chronic pain.
• Once again, no doctor could explain the symptoms since nothing was traceable in her blood. A thought was that it could be a type of cancer but they waited to see if her blood would show any signs.
• Her grandfather believed that he should leave her be and enjoy the time he had with her. Since they couldn't save his daughter's life, he wanted to spend as much time with Mona as he could.
• Mona would spend afternoons after school with her "nonno" learning how to prepare all that the menu offered so she could run the restaurant when she grew up.
• One early evening, she went out to the back to throw away some garbage and came across a little boy sitting in the alley, crying.
• When she approached him, he seemed very nervous and cowered away from her. She couldn't see his face since he was wearing a large hoodie. She greeted him and he shyly said hi back. He quickly wiped his tears and stood while she came a little closer. Feeling how chilly is was, she offered him some food. Before he could respond, she ran through the door and came back outside with a pizza pie. Out of excitement, he quickly grabbed the box and she saw his hand. The boy froze not knowing how she'd react. Instead of cringing, she lifted her sleeve and showed him her arm where she was growing scaly, green skin. A few minutes passed by and she decided to introduce herself, "My name is Mona. What's yours?"...."Leo."
• Leo had explained that his brothers had dared him to climb up to the manhole and bring something home to prove he had gone topside. Once he had done it, he became afraid and was embarrassed to admit it made him cry. Mona not quite understanding why he lived in a sewer, reminded him anyway that he now had a pizza and that proved he did it. They said their goodbyes and she made Leo promise he would return.
• After that day, Mona and Leo became very good friends. He never showed his face but Mona understood. She was lucky all of her deformities were hidden under clothes.
• Years passed and Mona now worked as a waitress and part time pizza maker in the restaurant. She always remembered the nights when Leo...and sometimes a brother, would stop by to pick up a pie. At this point, Mona had grown to be very pretty and Leo had developed a liking to her. Naturally, he never made any advances but would visit her when he knew she wasn't expecting him so he could see her work. His brothers never knew of this crush since he only went to see her when he "went out for a run".
• Mona was working in the restaurant as well as in school to pay for tuition. She had dreams of becoming a physicist but with her declining condition she stopped going to school. Her focus instead was the family business.
• One night, Purple Dragons broke into the restaurant. Mona and her grandfather lived upstairs so they heard the commotion. Her grandfather went to call the police but was shot and killed before he was able to. After they took the money, the set the restaurant on fire and escaped before the police arrived. Mona managed to use her fire escape to head to the roof. She was spared but her life was ruined. She had no savings and her grandfather never made a will.
• With the added stress of homelessness and heartache, her mutation increased drastically. While sleeping in the burned down apartment, she experienced sharp, intense pains that would cause her to black out. One night, Leo was looking for her after seeing what had happened and heard her scream. He found her in the apartment unconscious but her body was more reptilian than he remembered it. What used to be green patches was now her entire body. Parts of her hair had fallen out and she was showing signs of the start of a tail. Not able to leave his friend, he picked her up and took her home.
• Once at home, he laid her in his bed and called Donny. She was experiencing dangerously high fevers, along with signs of malnutrition & dehydration. Right away, Donny got to work setting up IV's and cooling her body.
• She spent a few days in this condition. The night she woke up, she saw a shadowed figure sitting awkwardly in a chair. Figuring he was asleep, she tapped his knee to wake him. He woke up startled but was very happy to see her awake. Once Mona heard his voice, she knew it was her friend Leo.
• Leo told her why she was in his home and how quickly her mutation had progressed. He offered to show her a mirror if she wanted to see. A desk lamp faced away from him and he turned it on so she could she. Once she looked into the mirror she began to scream and sob. The screaming scared Donny and Mikey so they ran to Leo's room turning the lights on in the process. The added image of 3 "monsters" like herself caused her to almost hyperventilate and she fainted.
• Chastising himself, Leo left the room and had Donny and Mikey follow him. They would try to speak with her in the morning. Quickly checking her pulse and vitals, they all left and went to sleep.
• Mona awoke a few hours later. She remembered what had happened but did not see any of them around. Feeling thirsty, she slowly got up from the bed and opened the door. She saw a light on in what she thought was the kitchen so went to see if maybe Leo was in there. The walk was awkward with her stiff muscles and the added weight of a tail behind her. Finally, she reached the kitchen and saw one of them sitting at the table. Not sure who he was, she asked, "Leo?" The figure bristled and said, "Do I look like Leo?" Not knowing what to say, she walked further inside and sat at that table with him.
• Noticing he had a bad cut on his arm, she asked what had happened. "Fuckin' Purple Dragons, that's what happened. I swear, I'm gonna get every last mutha fucka out there." Remembering that he hadn't really met this girl yet, he thought it appropriate to introduce himself, "Uhh...sorry about snappin' at ya. I'm Leo's brother, Raphael...Raph. He said your name was Mona, right?" Feeling a little more comfortable with him, Mona stood and grabbed a drink from the fridge and answered, "Raph, if you hate Purple Dragons as much as I do, we're going to get a long just fine."
• They spoke for the rest of the night until Leo woke up and came into the kitchen. Surprised to see Raph and Mona talking and laughing together, he coughed lightly to get their attention. Mona looked at Leo and studied his face, "Nice to finally meet you Leo."
• Months passed and Mona had become part of the family. Bonding with each individual while establishing her own niche in the family. Even though her and Leo were still friends, she became very close with Donny on an intellectual level and close with Raph on a..."different" level. There was a lot of flirting on both sides driving Leo CRAZY. He was disgustingly jealous of Raph. For once in his life, there was something he wanted which his brother had.
• When Raph and Mona finally decided to become a couple, Leo was heartbroken. He hid his emotions well but Donny was aware of how Leo was feeling. He confronted him about it and having someone to talk to about the situation made things easier.
• Eventually, Leo was able to deal with the lovebirds especially since he retained his friendship with Mona.
• Mona, happier than she had been in a long time, loved living with the guys and their sensei. Splinter treated her like the daughter he never had and she felt like the pain of her grandfather's loss was finally starting to dissipate.
• April's friendship was also a good one. She helped her with her "girl things" and even gave her a belt and bomber jacket so she wouldn't feel as naked. Wearing no clothes was something she could never really get used to.

W00t! I finally got this up! I've had this story in development for MONTHS. One thing I should mention that all this happens after they defeat Shredder and come back from Japan and all that. Also, I combined TCRI & TGRI so her story makes a little more sense. It's an alien fortress that makes toxic substances too 8D
