Part 8


Amy's POV

Before I was drifting, everything was dark. It hurt to move. Suddenly, a bright light had pierced the dark. Then it was all gone. Now I'm drifting …… but...  A slight rocking motion runs through me. "…am I…..being carried…?" a voice thought. This place was really weird…  "I guess it doesn't really matter though….." part of me said. The darkness slowly enveloped me again…….

I was surrounded by warmth. My head was leaning on something fuzzy.
"…..Feels nicee…." I mumbled, and buried my face in it.

Just then, the fur spoke.
"Rose, I am not your pillow."

Shocked, I looked up. Shadow's face was staring down at me.
"Ehhh??? SHADOW???What are you doing here?" I panicked.

"I could ask the same about you." He replied calmly. I stared wildly. We were jogging steadily through the forest- I could see Silver dashing about as well. He was carrying me, (bridal style) and my arms were around his neck.

"A-ahh! I'm sorry!" I yelped and struggled down.

"No. Wait-" He started. Too late, I collapsed on the ground. He sighed. "The mist that put you asleep also had seemed to have a temporary effect on your muscles….you can't really walk."

"Well…..Fuck." I grumbled. Grinning, he picked me up again and continued walking. "Of course I had to touch it too, but you see, I had no problem with it, because I'm me."

I glanced behind me at Silver. "Some ultimate life form you are, Shadow. If you're so fast why can't you just speed all the way back?" I asked.

He grinned crookedly,
"I'm sorry, you're simply too heavy for me to do that all the way back."

Heat flooded to my cheeks. "WHY YOOUU…………..!" I screamed, ready to pull out my hammer. My arms sagged in defeat.

"Crap. I can't move my arms very well right now…can I?" I sighed.
"I'll get my revenge on you later Shadow."

"OK then Miss Rose." He said with mock courtesy, "Although I see your lungs seem to work just fine." My eyes narrowed. "Oh…….shut up." I said.
Silver grinned. He seemed to be enjoying are fighting match.

We finally got back to Tails's place. There, he gave me an injection that quickly helped me gain strength again. However, he kept asking me annoying questions.

"What exactly did the guy look like?"

"How did he put you to sleep?"

"Did you bring a sample of the mist?"

"Tails," I began, narrowing my eyes, "say one. more. word. and-"

"Tails, Amy seems very tired, why don't you bother her another time?" Shadow interrupted.

Tails began to protest, but Shadow continued talking over him.

"The enemy was impossible to see for some reason. She doesn't know how he put her to sleep. No- listen. As soon as I grabbedd her the mist evaporated. Now I suggest you stop asking so. many. questions." He glared at him, "Understand?"

Tails nodded meekly, sighing.

Standing up, I could feel my muscles still aching a little from the incident.
"Thanks Shadow. I'm gonna go clean up now." I said gratefully, dashing out of the room before Tails could try again. I went to go take a shower.

Since something like this had never happened to me, Tails wanted to study and watch to make sure nothing would come back. So for now, I was staying over for a few days. He had enough spare rooms to house almost everyone, so it wasn't much of a problem finding a space. The hot water turned on and I got in.

"I wonder what that was all about? With Shadow carrying me and all………" I thought.
His touch was different from than Sonic's… It was gentle, yet I felt really safe when he held me. "Ew, am I really thinking about this? Shut up Amy, jeez. Listen to yourself." I stepped out of the shower and grabbed a towel.

"I need to concentrate on something else."

I was brushing my quills out when there was a small tap on my door.

"Amy? Can I come in?"

"Oh, Blaze, sure. What is it?" I answered. "The doors unlocked."

Blaze entered closing the door behind her. She sat down on the bed beside me.

"I have something to tell you" she whispered, leaning in close.

"W-what is it?" I blushed.

"Well I was talking to Silver about today, he mentioned something weird to me. And... y-know... we haven't had much girl-girl time, so I was waiting to spill to you."

My stomach turned a little. I had a feeling I knew what this was about. "Okay.."

"Well...  Silver was filling me in on what happened he said something that I think you should know. You know how Shadow told you he couldn't run very fast while holding you?"

"Y..yeah.." I said hesitantly, "I remember Blaze. I-it wasn't a big deal he was just teasing me."

"Well, remember that time when we were fighting Eggman and that big robot collapsed? I know for a fact that Shadow had to clean up that mess for him. He's way stronger than that."

Confused, I stared at her. "So... what?

Blaze blinked back at me, obviously I was missing her point.
"So, Silver told me that Shadow told him that he was injured from pulling you out of the mist, but then Silver told me that Shadow was joking with you about being affected by something like that."

Why..?" I said slowly, that didn't seem very Shadow-like to me.

"My guess....? He wanted to carry you longer." She grinned, laughing at me.

I blushed furiously, jumping back and almost hitting myself on the headboard.

"N-n-n-n-no. That's not possible. This is Shadow we're talking about! He just lied to me for fun, to mess with me." I protested, extremely red in the face.

"Allrightt then," Blaze shrugged, a smile lingering on her face. "just thought you should know Amy."

She got off the bed and leaped, slightly cat-like, toward the door. I sighed. This day had been too long.

Abruptly, she turned around. "Oh! That reminds me… Could you maybe teach me how to make those cookies of yours? Silver loves them, and I would like to surprise him with some sometime." I nodded. "Oh. Sure. I'll give you the recipe later." "Thanks Amy!" she yelled, and dashed out the door.

"Today sure is turning out strange…"
