Balls of fun...

"I can't thin'k of when I had SO much fun! Why didn't we come here earlier?"
The young woman stared intently at the wineglass in her hand.
"You know...these lines really do make such a pretty light when you hold it like this...don't you think?"
As the glass tilted, the red liquid made a serious attempt to escape. A little more and it would have soaked the fabric of her dress rather than her lips. That would have been bad enough with a red dress, but with the dark green it would have looked terrible. Of course, it would have been just as wet.
"Boss?"
Sam winced the moment that word had escaped him. He couldn't imagine what had made him say it. It was a surefire way of getting on her bad side.
"It's such a nice party, don't you think. So many nice people...haven't seen so many in ages...really do need to get out more..."
"Err...Mae?"
"Hello Sammy. Long time no see."
Seranthiem frowned. There was something odd going on here. Now that he came to think of it, he gast his eyes over the nearby area, what had happened to her shoes?
Still wondering what was going on, Mae never touched alcohol, not even at these social functions. So, what had changed? Suspicious, he picked up the bottle of red wine and sniffed it. Nope, nothing strange there...
"Okay, I think that perhaps you should retire for the night."
This was not what he'd had in mind for the evening. Ok, so what he HAD had in mind was managing to stay out of trouble, out of sight and preferably out of mind of all the other attendants of the ball. Sam wasn't the social type. It wasn't that he disliked people, or even that he felt uncomfortable in crowds, just that he was quite happy with his own company...and that of animals.

That was probably the reason why he hadn't seen the figure lurking about the drinks earlier, or the liquid that he'd surrspestiously, and generously, distributed in the various open beakers that held the party's non alcoholic drinks.
