Description

Next him September marched eke on foot,
Yet he was hoary, laden with the spoil
Of harvest riches, which he made his boot,
And him enriched with bounty of the soil;
In his one hand, as fit for the harvester's toil,
He held a knife-hook; and in th'other hand
A pair of weights, with which he did assoil
Both more and less, where it in doubt did stand,
And equal gave to each as justic duly scanned.
-Edmund Spenser, The Faerie Queen

This is part of a project I am doing to interpret this piece in my own way, in order to make a calendar for me. I always thought of the months as female so that is how I interpreted them, even though most of them are described by Spenser as male, but that's the great thing about artistic licence - you can do as you please!
