Pineapple Goggles

Once upon a time I had a great little black fake leather bag with a pineapple embroidered on the side. I was never going to use the bag for anything, so I spent several mind numbing hours taking out all the seams (curse you, well made bag! And curse you as well, dull seamripper!) and finally managed to put this together. I am SO happy that I managed to get the pineapple on the side where I wanted it. That took about three weeks of me looking at the project and fiddling around with the paper patterns, turning my head from side to side and then saying "Uh, no . . . maybe . . . this? No . . ." before I finally got it to work. Yarp, I'm special like that sometimes.

This pair I made from crazy little kid costume glasses I got at the local dollar store. Just unscrewed the earpieces and pulled off the red clown nose, and project halfway done! the downside of using the pleather from such a small bag was that I didn't have any matching strap material to use, so I had to chop long strips (as long as I could get) out of the leftover pleather and try to stitch it together so that it looks right . . . Eh, ah well.

All in all, I love how these turned out. At first, my whole costume was going to use the very standard brown goggles with green lenses I made before these, but I just love the pineapple on the side so much . . . I think it lends an air of whimsy to my airship machinist. It's a dash of Kaylee, I guess.
