Hard to say, but this probably took me around 50 hours all together. (Must get better and faster!)

I know there are a lot of things about this piece that need to be improved. But I’ve spent too long on it already and it’s time to move on to the next. This is an older piece that I just wanted to finish really quickly, and then it actually turned out way cooler than I expected. I changed and improved as much of this piece as I could while, still having it be somewhat close to the original

This started around 2003 as an oil painting. Then I worked on it a bit with Corel Painter, earlier in 2010. Got frustrated and it sat for a few months. Then I got my Intuos4 and started using the awesomeness that is Paintool Sai, and yeah, a revolution.

When I initially started this piece I just wanted to “give a face” to the inner pain that so many of us have. An “inner demon” if you will. Later on I read Eckhart Tolle, and he gives the name “pain body” as a way of interpreting our stored up negative emotions. So you could look at it that way too.

I heard a cool conversation not too long ago the about the concept that each of us has an “inner voice” or “Daemon.” Plato used this term, or it originated from ancient Greek mythology. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daemon_%… This voice, inspires us and guides through life. And when we ignore this voice, it becomes angry and will eventually turn into a Demon.

Pretty cool I think. I’ve definitely experienced something similar to this in my own life. I was one of the angriest people of all time when I was younger. And then once I learned to calm the chaos of my mind and listen to that inner guide, my life has been so, so much better.

My inner demon as turned back into a daemon of inspiration, and now it helps me create all this artwork for our viewing pleasure! : )
