Deceptive Intensity acted exactly the way her name implied. Before a race she'd dance around, nibbling on her handler, sticking her tongue out and generally acting like an idiot. A favorite trick of her's was pretending she was going to make a big deal about loading, and prancing around as if trying to get away, and then "break free", then she would load herself. She was a crazy thing. But ater she was done acting like a moron, she was intense. Jake was given her as a mount, because he was the most senior of the jockeys, so he wouldn't be phased by her shinanigins.

Dece had been entered in the Preakness, everyone had wanted her to make an attempt at either the Triple Tiara or Triple Crown, but Jake was afraid it would have been too much for her- he did not want any injuries on his watch. So they decided that they'd run her in the Preakness, but no other Triple Crown races, and the Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic after.
She was doing her usual dancing around as hey walked to the track. The poor handler's arm was amply coated in salivia, because of course, Dece had her tongue hanging out. The reporters snapping pictures on each side were sure to get some ... interesting shots, she'd look right at them, with her tongue flopping all over the place. If she didn't run so well, Jake would've been embarrassed to be riding such an unintelligent looking horse.
At the gates, again, she was predictable. All the handlers at the gates had been told that as always, the black sabino mare would try to break away- but to let her. She would load herself right away. Of course Dece was unaware of the fact that they were onto her, so she carried out her usual routine with the same effort everyone had come to expect.
The race went just as expected as the pre-race show she put on. All the horses broke cleanly, and Jake let her settle with the pack. He wanted her to have someone to chase the whole way. He planned the moment perfectly, sending Dece off to catch the leader at the point where she'd just barely catch the colt. She won, by a nose.
