It was really only a matter of time before I gave Hellraiser a second shot. The first time I watched it, things didn't go as well as I had hoped so I laid off it for a while, convincing myself that the rest of the series was just as bad, if not worse than what I had just seen, therefore I had no reason to return to the series ever again. But everywhere I looked, I kept seeing Pinhead, and I knew that it wouldn't have such a devoted following if it wasn't any good...(except for Twilight) so I gave it another shot.
With the CD/DVD store right near me closing down, everything was 40% off so I bought Hellraiser, and Hellraiser 2. (Along with Saw 5 and 7, I finish collecting one series, and I start another one. WHEN WILL IT END?!?)
I re-watched Hellraiser, remembering just how bad it was the first time, but the second time around I appreciated it a bit more, and I took the time to explore the extra features on the DVD.
I threw the second movie with absolutely no idea what to expect. (I only bought it because the guys at the CD/DVD store said it was alot better than the first one, and I trust them.) And after watching the second one...I was hooked. (Pardon the pun. :giggle:)

I've discovered that liking the Hellraiser series is certainly an acquired taste. Not everyone will like it, and it's not your typical horror movie. It's f***ed up. It's disturbing. It's different, and inspiring, and that's why I painted the icon of the franchise; Pinhead.

Hellraiser is not the new Nightmare on Elm Street series for me, Freddy is my man, but Pinhead has certainly earned a spot in my gallery. He's got great quotes, and whenever he's on screen (which is less than one might think) his presence is captivating, and he demands attention. Mind you, he's a little hard to ignore what with all of the pins in his head.

This is a rare piece from me, an Acrylic painting on canvas. I rarely paint acrylic, so going back to it was an interesting experience. It took me a while to get adjusted to putting the paint on the canvas with a paintbrush, rather than an Airbrush that I've grown so accustomed to. Mixing the paints was interesting, and I'm positive that my overall technique was horrible. I was adding colours as I saw them, and I didn't plan anything out. (I probably wasted way too much paint in the process too, but I don't want to think about it.)
However in the end, this picture came out a billion times better than I had expected, so I just might go back to acrylic more often.

This took me 3 days, 5-7 hours a day, and multiple viewings of Hellraiser 2, so you can do the math.

And anyone who knows me and my artwork knows that this picture, of course, is not from my own mind. ("Ah, such a limited imagination.") I know, I know, the original picture can be found here: [link]

So with all of that said, and if you're still sitting there reading this, please comment and let me know what you think!
