Egg Shell

“The bird fights its way out of the egg.
The egg is the world.
Who would be born must first destroy a world.”

I used this quote by Hesse as a starting point and theme in which I explored the concept of self. I painted my inner world, a mannequin was my canvas–a female form stripped of voice and limbs; a compilation of inspiration in acrylic paint. My inner world–this egg, this womb in which my ideas develop–is a place of comfort and refuge. Conversely, this place is a prison constructed of my bad habits, my timid nature, and my fear of letting go. To grow, to come of age, I must first destroy a world.
