Missing the Penguins

Ta-da! First little comic page done with my tablet! And the characters here have the honour of being the first non-chibi people that I have drawn on my shiny new tablet. The lines are kinda wobbly, but I assume that's what it is like at first.

The idea for this came from discussions in my journal ([link] Where a bunch of us have been discussing ideas for extra art, so you should check it out!) and my own general musings about Nina's opinion of Russ. He already has a few admirers, but Nina's home is quite close to the border and so she has met her fair share of (stereotypically speaking of course) "grumpy Welshmen". It's not that she doesn't like Russ. He just doesn't catch her romantic interest. If she has any romantic interest to speak of in the first place. They can form a very simple friendship on their shared love of penguins, I'm sure. Which is probably how Nina got his number.

Now about the actual arty stuff...

LOOKIT THE PENGUINS! I am oddly proud of my penguins. I don't know why with how simple I've done them, but meh.

Nina has a very simple phone. The kind that's sort of like a brick, with a large screen and a camera. I think she was trying to make things easy on me...

But then I had to do all those hands! Honestly, the tournament really encouraged me to attempt things I normally wouldn't and apparently that will continue from now on. Before the tournament, both Lucy and Ava would have been standing up with their hands behind their back. But look! Ava has her arms crossed and Lucy is kneeling down with her arms hung over the wall and a fish in her hand(yes, that's supposed to be a fish) And actually showing Nina holding her phone! That's a first for me.

Considering she's actually somewhere between Nina and Ava's heights, Lucy is a bit too small here. I still need to work on that. Or it might just seem that way because she is kneeling down and it's just her arms that are a bit too small. Maybe?

I only just noticed that it looks like Ava and Lucy are wearing the same tops in different colours... I shall add clothes to my list of things to look into.

I actually attempted Ava's accent this time! Wooooooo! Does her hair look too orange? I can't decide.

That's a strange zoo... so bare... BUT at least I included a background this time! AND I had to draw it all twice due to technical issues! That girl's mother is standing off-screen and watching her, I promise. Also stood-off screen is the Penguin Keeper who provided the bucket from which Lucy got that fish. He just... obviously has a phobia of mutants! And is keeping his distance! Yeah...

In my mind, all umbrellas are red and white. You have Resident Evil to thank for that.

I apologise for Nina talking about "grumpy Welshmen" as if they are are objects to own. That's just the way she is. I certainly don't think that way.
