Background: Silas is an old man in a world that's changing too fast. His childhood was unremarkable, middle class. He inherited his father's business--manufacturing bleach--in 1901. That same year, he was bitten by a wolf, and his life changed.

Becoming a werewolf might have derailed most men, but not Silas. As his company grew, he started putting money aside to help others like him, becoming the de facto leader of New York's upstate werewolf population in the process. When he retired, he passed the reigns of Oliver Chemical to his son and returned to his birthplace of Elkhorn, intending to live out his long life peacefully, buoyed by the income from Oliver Chemical and his other investments.

It didn't last. His pack, now called Vale, found itself constantly fighting with their Belekt neighbors. His investments failed. That, at least, didn't matter--Oliver Chemical ballooned into Oliver-Newcomb, a multinational behemoth whose leadership passed down through Silas's family line. Every successive generation made sure to provide for him, and every generation kept his secret.

Now, his great great grandson, Grayson Oliver, heads the corporation. Grayson is in charge of the trust that funds Silas and the Vale pack, and he never lets Silas forget it. Grayson is simultaneously cutting funds to Vale while funneling money toward anti-werewolf weapons research. If the Vale wolves ever find out, Silas won't stand a chance.

In the twilight of his life, Silas finds himself beset on all sides. The Belekt Tartarus pack is taking Vale territory, his money well is drying up, and his own pack members want him out.
