"Sonic and the Mystic Mage"
Chapter 10


Sonic and I flew as fast as we can to the place where Kitsune-chan screamed, an we were shocked at what we are seeing: an elephant Mirror Beast with its trunk wrapped around Kitsune-chan, who is struggling to get out.

I looked at the two people--a guy and a girl--with cat ears and tail. I'm guessing that those are pretty much were-cats, I can tell from their evil looks and rather unconvincing red eyes.

"Hey, you guys!" I yelled. They looked at us as we said our Mystic Mage cheer(1):

~Mystic Mage cheer~

Sonic: Emmisary of light, I am Mystic Sonic!
Miia(me): Emmisary of light, I am the wind-sea Mystic!
Both: Together we are the Mystic Mages!
Miia: Dark servants of evil...
Sonic: ...Go back to the abyss where you belong!

~End of Mystic Mage cheer~

The were-cat girl smirked evilly. "Just in time for the party!" She then gestured the Mirror Beast to squeeze Kitsune-chan tighter. He screamed in pain.

"Leave him alone, and release him!" I ordered.

The were-cat guy simply said, "Or what?" along with an evil smile(2).

"We'll destroy the Mirror Beast with a powerful wind-sea spell," Sonic was making an ultimatum. "And in turn, either defeat or destroy you, too, and freeing Tails!"

" 'Tails', huh?" the were-cat said. "Well, then I guess I'll have to have Tuskhore squeeze him to death, then, so that he has never even heard of you saying that in the first place!"

"Tuskhore"(3) was about to wrap its trunk tighter when Sonic suddenly turned into a ball and dashed off at its face, thus releasing Kitsune-chan. Upon seeing it, I caught him and took him to a safe place behind the bushes.

"Kitsune-chan, are you all right?" I asked, worried.

"Kitsune...-chan...?" Kitsune-chan was still gasping a little for air from the tight squeeze, but then he got confusion in his eyes.

Immideately, I read his eyes and worry broke in. Not a smart move, Miia.

"Uh, I... didn't say 'Kitsune-chan'!" I said in a quick and frantic tone.

Kistune-chan looked even more confused(4). "Then, why are you acting all frantic??"

"That's not important now," I returned to calm. "What's important is defeating that monster. So in the meantime, please stay hidden, okay Kits-- I mean, little fox."

Kitsune-chan nodded and I moved my Lugia wings and flew back into battle. It looks to me that Sonic is beating Tushkore repeatedly with his ball-like attacks. I tried to remember which wind spell I used previously, and upon remembering, I cast a powerful wind spell ("ventus ferrum!!") at Tuskhore's face as Sonic stopped attacking.

I opened my mouth to speak, but Sonic smugly said, "Just weakening it for ya!"

I was half grateful, but I was also half angry; he should be using his own magic, not just some normal-going blue ball attacks. Oh, well; I will have to assume that he is manipulating his magic-- Manipulating magic! Maybe I should try that technique...

"Thanks!" I said with a cheerful smile (plus a thumbs up!).

I then looked to notice the were-cats; the cat dude looked angry, but the cat chick... boy, was she really, and I mean really pissed! "Well, are ya gonna stand there and let those two hedgehog mages kick your pachyderm ass?!?!" she was screaming. A really bad temper, honey.

Tuskhore gained its concentration and shook his head. As it was doing so, Sonic cast a powerful sea spell ("Abyssus mistica inundo!!") aiming at its face (with the smell of sea salt, which is starting to get annoying). But Tuskhore defended itself with its bat wing trunks, which must've enlarged at that time. Not a good sight.

Just then I had an idea. Back at Sakura Park, Sonic and I were learning a weak spot spell; well, this is the time to make it useful. "Hey, Sonic!" I called to him.

Sonic turned to face me. "Yeah?"

"The weak spot spell, let's try that!" I answered back. "I'll set up a distraction, you go and cast it and let me know where the weak spot is!"

Sonic let out a smirk and thumbs up and said,"Okay, you be careful, Miia!"

"All right!"

I dove in and kicked tuskhore in the chest with powerful wind force transferred to the ball of my foot, and it flinched. Angered, it tried to grab me with its trunk, but I dodged it; it tried to grab me again and i dodged it again; and again and again as it tried to grab me time and time again. I guess I was't even kidding about me running a little faster than my friends previously.

"I found it! Here!"

I looked up to Sonic. "What did you find?" I called back as the trunk swung at me, but I jumped high and kicked it.

"It's the red orb on top of its head!" Sonic called back. "Let's attack it together in order to destroy it!"

"Okay!" I dodged another swing of the trunk and floated up high to rejoin with Sonic.

We began to transfer our wind magic together to our hands and cast an even powerful wind spell, aiming for the red orb Sonic specified. "Mystica restio morsus!!" And then we blasted a very large tornado at Tuskhore and in seconds the elephant Mirror Beast dissolved into a mirror, then the mirror shattered.

The cat twins didn't look so pleased. The cat chick was so totally pissed off now. "You are gonna so regret this for what the hell you've done!" she screamed. "We will be back next time, only stronger and with an even stronger Mirror Beast!"

"A perfect warm-up for us!" Sonic said with his arms crossed, looking smug.

"Yeah, what he said!" I said also, with a burst of confidence in me.

"We'll be back, mages," the cat dude said. "To serve you up a dark dish of revenge." And so the were-cats teleported off.

We hovered down to the ground, a little exhausted from this battle. But I think it was worth it.
My hedgehog ears moved twice. It made my head hurt a little. I guess living as a hedgehog apparition wasn't even as easy as I thought. In fact, between you and me, I felt weird living as a hedgehog.

I turned to see who it was: Kistune-chan. And in his hands a sapphire the size of a grape fruit. He had a happy expression on his face. He must've watched the battle while hiding. "That was so cool, you guys!" he said. But his expression turned to confusion. "But... Sonic...?"

"H-hey, buddy!" Sonic said nervously. That's it, we're so doomed.

I thought about Queen Arcadia, I think she will help us through this. Queen Arcadia, I said in my head. Will you please help us??

Then an image of the blue jay woman appeared in my head. To me she understood the situation. What should we do? I asked.

It is futile to hide it any longer, she said. Tell Tails what has happened to you and Sonic, including your magic powers.

A wave of surprise rushed through my spine. But...

I believe he will be a valuble asset to your team, Queen Arcadia optimized. So you must tell him the truth.

I sighed and said, "I guess it's no use hiding it any longer." I touched my red orb and transformed back to my normal self. Sonic did the same. He must've heard Queen Arcadia also, but I can sense that he has doubts.

Kistune-chan's eyes widened. "Miia?! So you're a... you're a...!"

"It's true, l'il bro," Sonic said out of guilt. "We have magic powers. We're mages."

"But we're still learning," I added. "We're just beginners."

Kitsune-chan said nothing for a moment. Then he said with grin, "Cool!"

I was surprised at what he said. "Cool...?"

Sonic smiled. "Yeah, we thought that being mages are cool, too! Right, Miia?"

"U-uh, right," I said.

"Well, then, that would explain the kooky costumes and hair does and the hair and eye color," Kitsune-chan said.

I noticed the sapphire in his hands. "Where did you get that sapphire??"

"Oh, you mean this?" Kitsune-chan handed the sapphire to me. "That's not a sapphire, even though it looks like it, that's a Chaos Emerald."

"A what, now??" I was confused.

"Chaos Emeralds have amazing powers," Sonic explained. "When someone uses a lone one, it can transform you thoughts into power, and it can distort time and space. Collect all seven, and a miracle's supposed happen."

"Chaos Emerald come in seven different colors," Kitsune-chan explained. "Red, yellow, green, cyan, blue, purple, and white. From time to time they tend to be scattered everywhere, yet they are attracted to each other like magnets."

"So keep that as a lucky charm!" Sonic said with a thumbs up.

"Okay, I will," I promised. I turned to Kitsune-chan. "From this fiasco, I think you need a place to stay, Kistune-chan."

"Funny you should mention that." Kistune-chan pulled out a briefcase from an unknown place (Creepy isn't it?) and opened it. Inside it, there are capsules with different colored tape wrapped around each of them. "I've been working on these for a few months tirelessly; I think these might come in handy some day."

"Well, like I said, you might need a place to stay; and by that, I mean we need to find an open area where there is no one around."

"Well, then, let's get to it!" Sonic said with a thumbs up.

"Acutally," Kitsune-chan started. "My tails are kinda numb from being squeezed so hard in the elephant's trunk."

I picked up the little fox and set him on my shoulders. "Then I'll carry ya to the spot. We can talk on the way on what happened just now."

"Uh, I guess so." Kistune-chan handed the closed briefcase to Sonic.

And so we began walking, talking about the Mirror Beast, the were-cats, the horned genie, Queen Arcadia and the mystic and were-animals, everything. I wonder if Queen Arcadia was right; Kitsune-chan should be a valuable team member, even without magic powers.
