Description

This painting is a dedication to my dear friend, :iconjurgendoe:, a.k.a. blaue Augen (blue eyes!)

I started this painting a long time ago, but set it on the back burner and never really did anything with it. Then I met Jurgen. We began discussing archaeology and history and I found that he loves Ancient Egyptian mythology, culture,
archaeology, mystery and magick as much as I do. In fact, he dedicated two lovely paintings to me and became my muse
where Egyptian art was concerned!!!

This painting is called "Wonderful Things". I remember looking at this picture when I was six years old and deciding then and there that I wanted to become an Egyptologist! Anyone who has any knowledge of Egyptology knows who Howard Carter is and the most well known discovery in the history of archaeology. The words uttered out of his mouth as he peered through the small hole into the antechamber of King Tutankhamun's tomb. "What do you see?" "Wonderful things!". When I saw this in the history book, I laid on my parents bed and cried because I just knew, in the distorted mind of a six year old, that Mr. Carter had discovered EVERYTHING there was to find and had left nothing for me to discover. I never made it to Egypt, but I did at least get my degree in anthropology and the adoration of the Egyptian
culture is still very much there.

I won't go into a history lesson about Howard Carter. Suffice to say that were it not for a water carrier in his entourage, November 4, 1922 would never have happened! There were many involved in the discovery of this world reknowned tomb, including early expeditions to the Valley of the Kings as well as the labor and fortitude of the local inhabitants. Unfortunately, they are rarely mentioned in the history books. Thanks to all their efforts, people such as Jurgen and I have been able to share in the heritage of a spectacular culture!

Jurgen, I hope you like this sweetie! I hope when you look at it, you remember the first time you read the account of the discovery of the tomb and that it brings back those feelings of enchantment for you as it has for me. Thank you for all of your support, your friendship, the lovely artwork, and being my German Egyptian muse :giggle:  :smooch:!!!!!
