2011 commitments

I usually don't make New Year resolutions. But this year I wanted to set some objectives, in order to keep me accountable. So I decided to:

1. Upload a drawing to DA at least twice a month. It is a very achievable goal, because I tend to draw relatively often. My problem is that I usually keep them to myself because I think they are not very polished. But lately I've come to realise that, actually, I'm perfectly fine just sketching. I'm not saying that those sketches are perfect nor that I couldn't improve them, just that right now I'm fine sketching. I feel free, and I think that an aspiring artist should build on that.

BTW, kiriban 3333 is very close! Get it and ask me for something cool to draw!

2. Keep writing daily while trying to reach a word count. "Writers write", and the NaNoWriMo experience has taught me that it is way better to have 1000 imperfect words than 10 or nothing. So I have kept writing almost every day since then, with a daily goal of 1700 words. The result is that instead of a half-baked first novel now I have stuff for a trilogy or more. I know that soon I'll go through the perils of editing, but that's a huge improvement over the eternal planning and slow writing stage. And I want to have at least the final draft of the first book by Spring! Then I will lower my daily goal, but the idea is to keep writing, even if it is just 500 words a day. I have many ideas and now I know that I can only get to know them well If I let myself flow and write. From brain to paper there's a world. A WORLD.

3. Related to this, I want to start a new blog, or to clean up and renew my current one in order to write about my experiences with writing and drawing, but I'm stuck with something as stupid as the blog's name. I've already wrote a pair of posts and they're getting dusty… Brrr!

4. What else? Yeah, I have also commited to read at least 50 books this year, more or less one per week. My first pair this year have been The Catcher in the Rye and Ender's Game - I've enjoyed both. If you have some suggestion, I'm open

es: No suelo hacer promesas de año nuevo, pero este 2011 he querido ponerme objetivos para animarme a hacer cosas que quiero hacer y controlar que las hago.

1. Publicar un dibujo en DA al menos dos veces al mes. Es un objetivo muy sencillo, pero que no he podido cumplir en otoño. Suelo dibujar a menudo, pero me lo guardo todo para mí mismo porque pienso que no es lo suficientemente perfecto como para mostrarlo. Sin embargo, últimamente he comprendido que tengo suficiente con esos bocetos imperfectos. No digo que sean perfectos ni que no pueda mejorarlos, sólo que me siento satisfecho bocetando. Y libre, algo de lo que creo que ningún aspirante a artista puede privarse.

Ya que estamos, ¡el kiriban 3333 está muy cerca! Atrápalo y pídeme que te dibuje lo que quieras!

2. Seguir escribiendo a diario para alcanzar una cuenta de palabras. «Los escritores escriben» y la experiencia del NaNoWriMo me ha enseñado (o recordado) que es mejor tener 1000 palabras defectuosas que 10 o nada. Así que he seguido escribiendo casi cada día desde entonces con la meta de 1700 palabras diarias. El resultado es que, en lugar de una novela a medio hacer, ahora tengo material para una trilogía o más. Sí, sé que pronto tendré que pasar por los dolores de la edición, pero es millones de veces mejor que estar eternamente atascado en la fase de planteamiento y escritura lenta. Mi primer gran objetivo es tener el borrador final del primer libro para primavera, y en esa fase de edición seguramente baje mis objetivos de escritura pura, pero mi idea es seguir escribiendo, aunque sean 500 palabras al día. Tengo muchas ideas y sé que sólo puedo conocerlas bien si me dejo fluir y escribir. Hay un mundo entre el cerebro y el papel. UN MUNDO.

3. Relacionado con esto, quiero empezar un nuevo blog, o limpiar y renovar el que ya tengo para escribir acerca de mis experiencias con la cosa creativa, pero estoy bloqueado por algo tan estúpido como el nombre del blog. Y ya tengo dos posts largos y están cogiendo polvo… ¡Brrr!

4. ¿Qué más? Sí, también me he comprometido a leer al menos 50 libros este año, más o menos uno por semana. Mi primer par ha sido El guardián entre el centeno y El juego de Ender, y he disfrutado mucho con ambos. Si tienes alguna sugerencia, la recibiré encantado
