Description

EDIT: Updated Clarisse in acccordance with various rp goings on and design changes. Drawing her without a neck... was darn near impossible. So I gave up on that particular aspect of AC style. EDITEDIT: Updated again, 'cuz I dislike the last picture. She looked derpy, man. (And I'm double-using this art for ~End-of-After's collab. I know it's sort of tacky, but otherwise I'd have even less time to do other awesome group-related things.)

Anyway. My app for :iconpkmn-crossing:, here's hoping it's good enough it was good enough!

Oh hey guys. If you've actually read the whole bio, I would love character crits, if you have any.

Wanna roleplay with her? Note me, or catch me in the group's chatroom! Comments are great too. :D

Also, now, meet Jacob! ( [link] )

:bulletyellow: NAME: :bulletyellow: Clarisse

:bulletblack: NICKNAME: :bulletblack: Missy

:bulletyellow: AGE: :bulletyellow: 26-- that is, her age when she died as a human. It’s been a while since she became a Yamask, and because she does not quite remember the process, nor can she remember any dates from her past life, she cannot precisely place how long it has been since she died. Though, a recent trip to Nimbasa showed it has been 76 years since she died. She's spent roughly half a year as a Yamask so far. Technically, her soul is about 103 years old...

:bulletblack: BIRTHDAY: :bulletblack: Unknown -- *that is, she can’t remember; for the sake of convenience she’s decided on April 26th to celebrate her death-hood. She reanimated in the spring, too, so it makes sense to her.

:bulletyellow: GENDER: :bulletyellow: Female

:bulletblack: NATURE: :bulletblack: Hardy -- that is, Clarisse is a stubborn little girl; so long as she remembers something she wants to do, she's probably going to go do it. She isn't one to give up, either, in any sense of the word... but she's pretty distractable.

:bulletyellow: POKEMON: :bulletyellow: Yamask (Normal)

:bulletblack: HOMETOWN: :bulletblack: Pokette Town

:bulletyellow: HISTORY: :bulletyellow:
Back in the heyday of Pokette Town, Clarisse was born to a pair of loving parents; her father, Jason, a radiobroadcaster; and her mother, April, a part-time photographer. They found a decent living, and at the same time they were close to Clarisse’s maternal grandmother. Here, Clarisse gained her love of nature; by accompanying her mother on photo-trips, as well as exploring the town on her own. Her father taught her the basics of fishing and bug-catching. Most of Clarisse’s earliest memories are happy times, spent either with her parents or with her grandma while her parents worked. Young as she was, there was little to rattle her world up until her grandmother died of old age when Clarisse was six. Although deeply affected by the loss of her grandma, Clarisse was determined to honor her grandma’s memory by not crying. At least, not to anyone else. The period after her grandmother’s death saw Clarisse as a stoic, unmovable little girl with little joy. Try as they might, her parents weren’t able to cheer her up.

Shortly thereafter, her father lost his job; unable to support themselves on only April’s income, and ready to move away from the still-painful memory of loss, the family moved to Raimon Town. There, they were close to her grandparents in Castelia City, as well as close to employment in Nimbasa City for her father. Here, Clarisse regained her naturally happy demeanor as she began to come to terms with the loss of her grandmother and live her life again. Clarisse’s favorite thing to do was to watch the Pokemon Musicals. Every moment that she could, she stole away to the Musical Theater to watch Pokemon perform. For four years her passion for the musicals did not cease; and when her parents deemed her old enough, they took her out into the nearby Desert Resort. There, with all the characteristic luck of an excited beginner, she caught a pink Darumaka. His name? Jonathan.

Clarisse and Jonathan became rising stars in the theater; and although Clarisse wasn’t a bad trainer, she decided that she would rather stay in Raimon Town than try and complete Unova’s Pokemon league challenge. After reaching a healthy level of local fame, Clarisse and Jonathan were ready to retire from the stage. Not wanting to leave the life of the theater, and wishing to be independent from her parents, Clarisse became a mentor for rising starlets and their pokemon.

It was during this mentoring that Clarisse met her end as a human. An energetic, stubborn, and capricious youth was training with his high-strung Skorupi when an accidental slip led to the fatal poisoning of Clarisse and one purple pokemon’s funeral. Though she was rushed to the hospital, it was too late: though normally such a stab would not have injected enough poison to kill, Clarisse had always been on the smaller side, and in addition, the Skorupi’s nervousness had added to the volume of poison injected.

Some time later, she awoke, draped upon an ornate headstone in a pastoral graveyard. Wearily, she tried to get up. She was able to, but felt there was something missing. Feeling almost like she hadn’t needed legs to get up, she looked down-- and lo and behold, saw her face in gold, gleaming up at her.

She screamed, only to find it wasn’t her voice that escaped her.

“Ya... yamask?” she asked herself. The commotion woke a nearby Darumaka, whose soft pink fur seemed vaguely familiar to the new Yamask. He looked questioningly at the golden mask, but finding nothing of interest in the black shadow that held it, went back to sleep.

Scared, alone, and only having remembered Pokette Town, Clarisse set out (floating, and hating every second of it) for her childhood home.

Since that day, Clarisse has remembered much more of her past. Had she not been scared out of her wits at the time, she would probably have returned to Raimon Town. As it was, she was not able to remember how, exactly, she got to Pokette Town from the graveyard, and finding her childhood town welcoming enough (if not as tidy as she remembered it), she decided to settle down where she had grown up, to help restore Pokette town to its former glory. And meet some new friends along the way.

ADDENDUM: After a spur-of-the-moment trip to Nimbasa with her friends from Pokette, Clarisse found out that her family and Jonathan were all dead of old age. Approximately 80 years have passed since her death.

:bulletblack: HOBBY: :bulletblack: Clarisse enjoys almost anything to do with nature. Consequently, she is both a decent fisher and a pretty good bug-catcher, though in general, she does not catch without a reason. As for indoors, Clarisse adores the Museum, both for its exhibits and the Roost, where she often enjoys a steaming cup of coffee. She enjoys decorating her home, as well; where the decor is always bright and cheery. And though she prefers to let someone else take the spotlight, she enjoys theatre very much as well.

:bulletyellow: JOB: :bulletyellow: As mentioned above, Clarisse is familiar with theater, and thus happily takes on odd jobs relating to the dramatic arts. Mostly, though, she catches bugs if she needs money. She's quite a proficient bugcatcher, though her size is somewhat limiting for her abilities. If someone would like, she'd be happy to design simple clothing, as she does for herself, but she doesn't expect anything to come out of that habit. So, mainly, she works in the town, with the occasional gig in the city.

:bulletblack: FAVORITE FOOD: :bulletblack: Casteliacone -- A rare treat for Clarisse, even when she visited her grandparents in Castelia City. She only gets one rarely, so don’t be surprised if she’s not inclined to share.

:bulletyellow: FAVORITE BERRY: :bulletyellow: Kasib Berry -- A strange choice for a Ghost Pokemon like herself; but as a Yamask, Clarisse remembers her fear of ghosts from her days as a human child. A Kasib berry was the folk remedy given to her by her grandmother; and ever since, even into her next life, it was her favorite. A side effect of her favorite ghost-repellent berry is the reduction of her ghostly powers, whether she’s recently eaten the berry or is even near it. It strengthens her tangability as well as reduces the chances of possession if someone happens to wear her mask. Which she is more than fine with-- she never truly liked being a ghost in the first place. If she eats too many, she loses her ability to levitate, and can't go anywhere until the berries are properly digested.

:bulletblack: CATCHPHRASE: :bulletblack: Yama~

:bulletyellow: ACCESSORIES: :bulletyellow: Clarisse’s aforementioned favor of Kasib Berries prompts her to wear one in her hair; besides reduction of her ghost powers, it looks cute to her. Were she to be unable to wear a Kasib Berry in her hair-- for whatever reason-- she would wear it as a necklace. Or eat some. Depending on the occasion.

Slowly, she's getting more used to her ghostly powers, and she'll take the Kasib Berry off if she needs extra strength. For being such a small Pokemon, she's quite strong when she isn't limiting herself.

She also wears a necklace she received from Judas; it features a lovely little blue-and-yellow glowing stone. She takes this off even less often than she does the Kasib berry. There's more to the stone than just being pretty, however...

:bulletblack: OTHER: :bulletblack:

:bulletblue: - Currently, she's in a relationship with Judas ( [link] ). Do anything to harm him or his feelings and there will be no forgiveness.
:bulletblue: - Clarisse has a pet Venipede, Jacob ( [link] ). He often helps her when she's trying to catch bugs.
:bulletblue: - Although her nature is Hardy, she’s also mildly timid and pretty laid-back.
:bulletblue: - Because of Johnathan, she adores Darumaka... and pink male pokemon. This trend continues with Jacob.
:bulletblue: - Her mother and father moved to Pokette Town after they got married. No more family survives in the area, and Torkomer doesn’t realize that the Human Clarisse and the Yamask Clarisse are one and the same. Nonetheless, Clarisse treats him warmly; he is one of the few surviving connections she has to her past.
:bulletblue: - Clarisse died 76 years ago. To say the least, things were different back then. Her death experience allowed her conscious mind to basically reboot, which is why she isn't continuously talking in 1920s slang, along with other mannerisms of that era that have been dropped. There were also other changes... Rebirth is sorta an important experience.
:bulletblue: Clarisse was less outgoing as a human than how she is now. Her dedication to the musical theater back in the day rather precluded romantic relationships. Not to say there weren't plenty of guys looking at her before she died.
:bulletblue: - Clarisse, for the most part, designs her own regular dresses (alternate wear, like swimsuits and gowns, are bought in cities). Simple, geometric patterns dominate her own designs, along with bright, happy colors.
:bulletblue: - Due to the circumstances of her death, Clarisse is averse to Skorupi. It’s hard to blame her.
:bulletblue: - The nickname "Missy" reminds her of her grandmother, as she was the main person to call her so in her past. She rather likes the nickname, though, and will probably place trust onto anyone who calls her by that name.
:bulletblue: - She's currently living in the upper left corner of D4; on the cliff. It's where her old home was, although that's long been dismantled. And she is, of course, indebted to Nook for the construction costs of her new abode.
:bulletblue: Clarisse is pretty easily freaked out. She never liked ghosts, avoided scary movies... and becoming a ghost hasn't really helped her out much with all of this: for the most part, creeping creeps her out, basically.
:bulletblue: - Mention of family is likely to get Clarisse in a blue mood, before she remembers that she's trying to remember the happy times.
:bulletblue: - In the Animal crossing games, she'd be a Normal villager. She also wouldn't play Hide-n-Seek, because she'd be too good at it.
:bulletblue: - Without the influence of a Kasib berry, Clarisse's hair becomes curly, reminiscent of her human form. This can been seen in her outfit meme ( [link] ) in her formal outfit.
:bulletblue: - Were Clarisse to evolve, she would need to fully come to terms with the fact that the past is indeed her past. That is going to take a while.
:bulletblue: Clarisse does have a second pair of parents; her Yamask form didn't come out of nowhere. Her second father has found her and contacted her; they keep in touch through e-mails and the occasional videochat. She now knows her brother, and is aware that she has a Cofagrigus mother, although the latter two haven't met.
:bulletblue: - Wearing her mask will likely result in possession. Possession entails mostly that Clarisse gains control of the wearer's form, and thoughts can be exchanged between Clarisse and the possessed like a conversation except it's all in their minds. Clarisse... would not be happy if this happened.
:bulletblue: - For those interested in provoking her, Clarisse's moveset:
--- Protect: She's able to extend this to anyone in direct contact with her, and possibly anyone she loves deeply that is near her.
--- Ominous Wind: This one creeps her out. She doesn't use it often, if at all. But when she does, you've seriously pissed her off.
--- Haze: Clarisse might use this as a ninja uses smokebombs; for stealth/escapade reasons.
--- Will-O-Wisp: Generally used to provide light on dark occasions.
:bulletblue: - Overall, Clarisse is a strategic fighter and does better when fighting as part of a team. She can actually stand quite a bit of damage; high health stats and relatively good special defense combined with her few weaknesses make her able to stand a lot. With her Kasib berry, she's only truly vulnerable to moves like Crunch.
:bulletblue: - Granted, Clarisse is not a fighter. The only time she's willing to fight is when there is a clear and present threat to herself or someone she thinks is an innocent. She's died once; she's not about to let anyone else go through that experience without a fight.
