Description

Here's another RDNA-verse map profile, this one on Portuguese Brazil in particular. I tried to keep it as consistent and feasible as possible to the rest of the 'verse, corrections aside. Also, as to why the Vatican seems to inexplicably own some land in Brazil, this hopefully ought to clarify that: [link] .

Once again, enjoy and feel free to add any criticisms.

Portuguese Brazil: General Introduction

The Legitimate Union of Brazil, more commonly known as Portuguese Brazil, is a country in South America. It is nominally a constitutional monarchy under the Braganza Lusitanian Throne, hence a continuation of the Kingdom of Portugal. In reality, the military controls the state with Regent-General Joao F. Barbosa presiding since 2001. Portuguese is the lingua franca, with Spanish (Peninsular Standard), Italian, German (Prussian) and local creoles close behind.

From the first colonial landings in 1502 to the Common Settlement of 1887, Brazil’s history was one of close, but complex relations with Portugal. While the country soon became a formidable power in its own right, it nonetheless stayed loyal to its “siblings,” to which a binding union similar to the Austro-Hungarian Crownlands grew more desirable. The Terror brought all such plans to a painful halt, made more poignant with the 1928 Reconsolidation that officially proclaimed it as successor to the Portuguese remnants. But despite initial efforts to keep its momentum, the country’s fortunes grew increasingly dire over the decades, culminating in the Belem Incident of 1992 that has kept it in under “Interregnum” ever since.

The majority of the population is either of (predominantly) Portuguese or mixed-blood descent, with those derived from African and European (mainly Italian and German-Prussian) refugees making up most of the remainder. Generations of ethnic interbreeding have resulted in a characteristic diversity of mixed-bloods, ranging from dark tans to almost pale European/Iberian features. Most of the small indigenous groups have largely integrated, though handfuls of tribes still lurk in the Amazon.

At present it is formally acknowledged by the Free Nations as a major power and a founding member of the Assembly of the Free World. The nominally civilian authorities still have a stable hold on the territories “inherited” from the Lost Nation, though the military holds sway over the districts set up to defend the monarchy against the Reds. It is in this background that the Brazilians continue to persevere, taking pride in its "exotic" traditions, socio-cultural tolerance and Portuguese legacy. But between the decidedly more successful New Austrians and their Gran Patagonian “allies,” more and more they are beginning to question whether they even deserve their place in the sun...”
