Prologue

In the undergrowth surrounding the beautiful, starry clearing, a short black and white pelt stirred the leaves. A slender face pushed from the bushes and into the clearing where a small, mystic pool lay in the centre. It had distinctly feminine features. She moved her head back and forth, looking around the clearing. It was waiting for someone. Than, as if on cue, cats poured into the clearing from every direction until the pool was surrounded.
"Glad you could make it." the black and white she-cat mewed to the others.
"Not like we had much choice..." A brown tom answered dryly. "Why have you brought this meeting together at such a late hour Cavestar?"
"The reason, Chaos-star, is there is a disaster befalling the clans very soon, and we need to do something... I'm sure you are all already aware of the situation. We need to decide on what to do!." She replied.
Another cat stepped forward. "What can we do?" the snow white tom asked.
"We could always send a sign." A silver tabby she-cat suggested.
Cavestar looked at them both in turn. "Good idea Moonstar." she nodded to the silver tabby.
She looked to the white tom. "There is always something Bonestar." she hissed.
Moonstar looked pleased with her-self, while Bonestar dropped his head in shame for a moment before looking up defiantly.
"Hey! What made you leader of Starclan!" he growled and nearly lunged for Cavestar. It took every ounce of self control to stop himself.
She hissed back. "Excuse me for trying to save the clans, besides, why do you care? Are you the leader?" she asked accusingly. "No one is in charge, so I stepped forward to clear up the   doubts, to bring forward hope for the poor cats down in the forest. Do you have a suggestion you would like to share?"
Bonestar didn't say a word, but drew back.
"Thank you. Now, what cats shall we send the signs to?" Cavestar asked.
"Wont we just send them to the medicine cats, or leaders like we usually do?" Chaos-star asked in confusion.
"No, we cant. Not the way things are going to happen, the leader's can't learn the truth, it could be disastrous." Cavestar explained.
"Alright." Chaos-star nodded. "Fair enough."
Cavestar nodded respectfully to her clan mate and looked around. "I know who to send it to." she declared.
"Who?" Moonstar asked in surprise. "And why are we not all sending our own?"
"There is one who is on her way steadily to the clans,  and she is the perfect cat to send it to." she answered confidently, but ignoring her  second question uneasily.
"Your not planning to do this all on your own are you?" Bonestar asked worriedly. "This is something that affects all of us."
"I know." Cavestar sighed. "But we cant risk sending it to more than one.... Its just too risky...."
"Than we should all appear to her!" Chaos-star inserted.
"We don't want to over whelm her, she has never heard of us before...." She sighed than realized her slip.
"What?!?" Moonstar exclaimed. "How can she be trusted with that knowledge?" She asked.
Chaos-star broke in. "This is outrageous!" He exclaimed. "How can we trust HER to serve the clans? We don't even know who she is!"
Bonestar was sitting quietly digesting this but suddenly intervened. "We could give her the sign...... But we need to get to know her first, maybe by visiting her in a dream?" he suggested.
Everyone looked at him in surprise.
"You agree?" Cavestar asked.
"Yes." he answered simply.
"Alright... Everyone who speaks in my favor, tell me now, those who don't, sit down. We will do a vote." Cavestar mewed.
Chaos-star sat down without a moments hesitation, but Moonstar hesitated for a moment that felt like moons.
"Well?" Cavestar asked as Moonstar thought.
"I don't know..." Moonstar sighed. "It just doesn't seem right meeting an outsider....."
Cavestar rested her tail on Moonstar's shoulder. "You don't have to if you don't want to, if it is okay with everyone else, I would actually like to do the visiting."
Moonstar looked up with a glint in her eye. "Thanks." she mewed and lifted her tail. "I'm choosing to be in Cavestar's favor!" she announced.
Chaos-star hissed with seething anger. "Your all mouse brains!" he growled and stalked off into the bushes.
Cavestar looked in his direction with a pained look. "I guess we will have to do this with only three leaders....: she sighed.
The other two leaders looked at her with sympathy.
"Its alright." Moonstar mewed. "It will be fine."
Bonestar gave a quick nod. "We can do this on our own." he agreed.
Cavestar smiled. "Alright!" she mewed. "Lets get started!"
The three cats headed out of the starry clearing together, heading for the valley of shared voices. (Where the Starclan cats go to make prophecy's for the clanners.)
