In, out
It was strange how something so simple required constant attention and repetition. Keep breathing, keep breathing. No matter how many times it was said, it didn't seem to register. Or maybe it did and Katara just wanted to give up now.
in, out
This wasn't the first time she had to remind herself to breathe again. Though she thought she knew what it was like to stop breathing when her mother died or when her father left, the real first time she had to remind herself to breathe again was with Zuko. When she saw the lightning come for her, her heart stopped. When she saw him dash in front of her, she couldn't breathe anymore. When she thought he was dead, she didn't want to live anymore. It wasn't until she heard Zuko call her name did she allow herself to breathe again. That should have been the last time, but it wasn't.

A year later when he said he was going to marry Mai, there was a different sort of pain she felt. One of betrayal, though it didn't make much sense. The way Zuko looked at Katara made her stop breathing just for a moment. Maybe there was something she missed.

And a month later when he announced he couldn't marry Mai because of Katara, she again had to remind herself to breathe. Though this time was a good reason to be reminded.

Nothing ever lasted long. The next time he saved her life, he didn't make it. She stopped wanting to live because he left too soon – he left her too soon. She wanted him back so much that it pained her to have to remind herself to breathe again, to live though he was dead.

It didn't hurt much, the lightning to her chest. Stupid and unexpected, yes. But painful, no. She could hear her family telling her to breathe again, telling her to stay with them, but their voices started to fade into the background. All she could do was close her eyes.
Katara, breathe
When she opened her eyes, she saw a face she hadn't seen in such a long time. His face. It didn't matter that it meant now they were in the spirit world together. All that mattered was that she was with him and she didn't have to remind herself to breathe again.

Return
"Daddy!" squealed his youngest child as she ran down the gangplank and flung herself at him.
Zuko picked her up and grunted a little. "You're getting big, princess," he said putting her back down.
"I know! Did you notice I grew? Mommy said I did. Do you like my new dress? Uncle Sokka said it was like the one Mommy wore while traveling with Uncle Aang," Zuko was impressed at how fast his daughter was talking and could definitely tell that her dark blue dress was like the one he'd seen Katara wear while he was chasing her. "And I drew you a picture. Well I drew you a lot of pictures but I did this one yesterday and I wanted to give it

Zutara- To Love and Have Loved
The young man lying face down on the singed ground groaned heavily in anguish as the waterbender ran to his lifeless from with all the force that pushed her heart forward. Immediately she slid to his side, her heavy breathing unmatched by his as he struggled for air. The weakness of his heartbeat underneath her fingertips was enough to tell the story as she gently flipped him over onto his back, her hand on his heart, and she began to try and heal the fatal wound he had received for her.
She felt for his heartbeat, one hand on his chest, the other with two fingers to his neck, finding almost no pulse, and fear washed over her, as he was sil

Slam. "That's it. You're going to tell me why in La's name you act differently when there are other nobles around rather than when its just your friends," Katara growled angrily.
Zuko looked at his irate girlfriend and tried to think of a good way to explain this to her.
"Uh," he fumbled while rubbing the back of his neck. "Well
"
"He has to," Mai answered for him. While Katara still felt a little uneasy with the fact that Zuko was still friends with his ex, seeing the two interact more like siblings rather than former lovers made her happy. Plus Zuko had very few friends.
"Why?" She asked.
"He's the Fire Lord. He has to show

is doing a 100 themed challenge and I decided to do one of them. Okay, well I wanted to do a bunch of them, but this is for now. I've had it ready for a few days but never really posted it.
I wanted to do a little something in Katara's POV, where she has to remind herself to breathe again over and over. Even more after Zuko dies. And yes, she dies too at the end. It's all good.
Yeah, I own everything. That's why I'm writing fan fiction of people dying instead of counting my millions of dollars.
