Under a Bright Moon

This picture reflects my interest in battles between supposedly 'primitive' people and their more technically advanced opponents.

It also depicts my fascination with the Ama, the pearl divers of Okinawa and coastal Japan. Although today they dress rather modestly and are mostly a tourist attraction, in the 'old days' they did indeed do their diving in the buff, except for a linen thong. Precautions were taken to keep the menfolk away, so as to prefer modesty. They were featured in the Bond film 'You Only Live Twice.' But I always saw great potential in them as heroic fighters for their rights and way of life.

Here, Purple Vixen has sent a team of scuba divers to take control of a remote island in the Sea of Japan and to 'clear out' the inhabitants to make way for one of Vixen's nefarious schemes. Not expecting any resistance, Vixen's troopers paid no heed to the bright moon shining that night as they left the nearby submarine. But they were easily seen by our intrepid pearl diver, who could tell they were up to no good. And so, armed only with her iron tetsu (a sharp edged tool used to pry oysters away from rocks and reefs), she ambushed the divers as they landed. Though heavily armed, Vixen's hench girls were taken completely by surprise and the small but athletic diver annihilated the team in a matter of moments. The sailors on board the sub would be puzzled at having lost contact with the team and will have to decide whether to search for them. This Ama will be waiting for them!
