The text changes colors when CPU or RAM gets too high, your battery gets low, etc.
The left side is what displays when your system is running normally. When your system is not running normally, the text changes color (on the right side). This way it stands out against the background and is more likely to get your attention.

Update:
- Added a config file for celcius/centigrade
- Added directions for configuration
- A '+' or '-' will appear depending on if your machine is charging/discharging
