The cruelty of blood-sports was sadly a commonplace entertainment in medieval times. Any animal that was spectacular or dangerous was considered fair game. Staged events were held, pitting them against dogs in a bitter fight to the death. In Bruges, Gunther himself witnessed an extraordinary fight between a pack of hounds and a gigantic “Devil-Fish”…
