General

  • This is a Pokemon Gijinka roleplay--there are no humans! Your character can be a Gijinka of an existing Pokemon from any of the Eight Generations.
    • We do not accept anthro characters. We do, however, accept regular Pokemon and other half-human forms such as nagas or taurs. If interested, please see the types of characters section below!
  • Original characters only! Nothing from other fandoms, or OC's from other fandoms! If you wish to use one of those, please reformat them to fit the setting.
  • The setting is MODERN-DAY Pokemon World:
    • Your character may only be from any location within the world of Pokemon (ex: Lilycove, Hoenn), including anime-exclusive cities and towns-- no real world locations, please.
    • You can dress your character however you like, from any time period or culture, with reason.
      • Mimikyu are not required to dress like Pikachu! Characters and pets may model their disguise after any Pokemon that they like.
  • All members may start with one character. Rights to additional characters may be purchased at the Front Desk- these characters will also be expected to afford their own rent.
    • You may also swap out a character at the Front Desk after two months of use.
  • All character applications must be drawn either as fullbodies or from the waist up. This includes Inn Guests.

Character Sheet Guide

  • Name: Your character's first and last name, or alias.
  • Age: Must be between 16 and 120 years of age.
    • Exceptions may be made depending on the character's background.
    • Due to the education level required, all C-level positions (ex: CEO) have a minimum age requirement of 25. Characters below 25 may, however, be in a C-level training position, such as an heir, co-signer, or junior CEO.
  • Gender: Your character's physical gender. Gijinkas must be male or female-- no genderless.
    • Male or female-only species must follow gender canon. (ex: Jynx must be female, Tauros must be male)
    • Characters may change gender if the method makes sense for them to do so.
    • Intersex or hermaphroditic characters will be accepted if there is evidence of research and respect towards the topic.
    • If your character's mental gender differs from their physical, you may make mention of that either here or by separating this field into Sex: and Gender: for clarity.
    • Under no circumstances may invented pronouns (ex: shi, hir) be used- if you desire to use gender-neutral pronouns, please use singular they instead.
  • Pokemon: Can be any existing, non-legendary Pokemon. Phione is permitted.
    • Characters may be evolved at any time, and may primarily be in their mega evolved form if a reasonable explanation is provided.
    • We will also accept half-evolutions- individuals who haven't completely or properly evolved to their next stage (ex: a mix between Charmander and Charmeleon)- if the failure to evolve is explained.
    • Unown may be of any recognized letter of any language. Please state what letter and language you are using here.
    • Alolan forms are accepted, but they must have been born in Alola, be a recent descendant of an Alolan, or have visited Alola at some point in their life.
    • Rights to a legendary character may be purchased at the Front Desk once you have been a member for three months. Please note that legendary powers may not be abused or used destructively-- godmoding rules still apply.
      • You may choose any legendary or mythical pokemon with the exception of Arceus, the Ultra Beasts, Necrozma and Eternatus.
        • Kyurem may only assume the form of Black or White Kyurem if you are in the possession of a Zekrom or Reshiram, be it another character, pet, or NPC.
      • There is a limit of two legendary characters per member- however, the second may only be purchased if you have four active non-legendary characters. You may drop below this amount after purchase, but you may not swap out either of your legendaries for a new one until this requirement is once again met.
    • If interested in creating a glitch character, please see the Glitches section below.
  • Type: Your Pokemon's elemental type.
    • Forest's Curse, Trick-or-Treat and Soak may have a lasting effect on an individual's type, failing to wear off due to a genetic susceptibility or possible glitch. This can slightly alter their appearance and give them type-related traits, such as becoming greenish from Forest's Curse or incorporeal through Trick-or-Treat.
      • How they came to be affected by one of these moves must be mentioned either in their History or Other Information.
  • Ability: Must be one of the abilities that your Pokemon can have, including "Dream World" or "Hidden" abilities.
    • For the sake of roleplay, ability-changing moves such as Trace, Skill Swap, and Role Play may copy abilities that they cannot in-game, such as Illusion or Imposter.
    • Certain abilities may cause physical alterations if the ability specifies a feature that the individual does not normally have, such as a wingless character acquiring wings from the Gale Wings ability.
      • If a required feature is lost by means such as amputation or dismemberment, the ability cannot recreate the missing feature.
    • Imposter may allow a user to take the form of a legendary pokemon, but they will be much weaker and unable to use any of the legendary's special powers- such as Celebi's time travel or Groudon's ability to create land.
    • Battle Bond may not be chosen as an ability, due to its Ash-specific basis.
  • Moves: You may start with up to FOUR moves plus one Z-Move-- they can be any move learned by the Pokemon by leveling, TM/HM, breeding, move tutor or event.
    • All moves must come from the main series games; not the anime or TCG. NO Glitch, Shadow or Purified moves.
    • Any of your four starting moves may be glitched- if interested, please see the Glitches section below.
      • You can add up to five additional move slots at the Service Desk. Unlike starting moves, these may not be glitched and must come from your available moveset.
    • Z-Moves may not be abused or used destructively. The user must have an appropriate move in their moveset (ex: a Water-type move to activate Hydro Vortex) and experience a significant cool-down period between uses.
    • You may swap out moves at any time, as long as they comply with the above rules.
    • For the sake of roleplay, item-stealing/swapping moves such as Thief, Trick, Switcheroo, and Covet may steal items that they cannot in-game, such as Mega Stones... or mail, if you so desire.
    • Transform may allow a user to take the form of a legendary pokemon, but they will be much weaker and unable to use any of the legendary's special powers- such as Celebi's time travel or Kyogre's ability to create oceans.
  • Occupation: Your character's job or occupation.
    • This should be indicative of the character's financial status. If it is not clear how your character is able to afford their home and lifestyle, please explain either here or in their history.
    • Characters may work in one of Tritoma Town's establishments or anywhere in another town or city, such as nearby Olivine.
  • Likes/Dislikes: A field to list the likes and dislikes of your character. This is optional but we do encourage you to fill it out if you can, and may request it if the Personality is lacking.
    • Please do not include sexual references. Sensitive spots may be listed only if they are in areas likely to casually be interacted with (ex: back, tail) and even then may only be referred to as "sensitive" with no implications beyond that.
  • Personality: A description of your character's personality. Should be well-rounded, with positive and negative traits.
    • We are looking for at least five sentences, but may ask for more if we feel that what you have is unsubstantial.
  • History: Your character's backstory. Must be realistic.
    • We are looking for at least five sentences, but may ask for more if we feel that what you have is unsubstantial.
    • Please try to avoid backgrounds involving rape. If you wish to include rape in a character's history, you must treat the subject sensitively.
    • Must include why or how your character came to live in Tritoma Town.
  • Other Information: A section for any additional information about your character that you want to include, such as physical traits or possessions.
    • Please do not include sexual references. Sensitive spots may be listed only if they are in areas likely to casually be interacted with (ex: back, tail) and even then may only be referred to as "sensitive" with no implications beyond that.
    • Characters may use and possess Held Items, but please use them in moderation.
    • You are allowed to have as many Mega Stones as you like, but characters may only activate and maintain one Mega Evolution at a time during roleplay. Only existing Mega Evolutions may be used.
  • Pets: See Pets section below.
  • Apt #: Where your character lives in the hotel.

Types of Characters

Pokecino primarily features Pokemon gijinka characters, but we also accept and encourage diversity in the form of half-humanoid beings and regular Pokemon.

  • Gijinkas

    • Humanoid characters with Pokemon traits and abilities. A gijinka's species may be represented via their clothing, hair or skin color, markings or by features such as ears, horns, wings and tails. It may even affect their size, making characters smaller or larger than normal.
      • However, gijinkas are not required to dress like or resemble their Pokemon in any way and may hide any sign of their species if they choose to.
      • We do ask that feathers, scales and fur please be kept to a minimum and mostly restricted to your character's Pokemon features (tail, wings, etc.) as gijinkas are not anthro characters and should not have an abundance of fur on their bodies. Some tufts and patches may be tolerated, otherwise no more than a very fine layer of fur is acceptable.
      • Hands and faces must be humanoid- gijinkas may not have paw-like hands or animal snouts.
      • Egg groups do not have to be followed for gijinka characters, but gender canon must be followed for male-only and female-only species.
  • Half-Humanoid Gijinkas (Taurs, Nagas, Fauns and Merfolk)
    • Humanoid characters whose lower body is that of a Pokemon. Just like regular gijinkas, they may also possess Pokemon features on their upper body such as ears, horns, and wings.
      • There is no limit to what kind of Pokemon you may use for a half-humanoid character- big Pokemon, small Pokemon, birds, snakes, bugs- as long as they have a human torso, it doesn't matter.
      • Merfolk, however, must have some means of getting around and surviving on land.

  • Pokemon

    • Regular Pokemon may be used as characters if they are either transformed into a gijinka or have learned to talk and behave like a person.
      • They may not use themselves in pet-related services such as breeding or racing and cannot enter themselves into pet-centered events.
      • Unlike gijinkas, egg groups must be followed for Pokemon characters. They must also follow gender canon for male-only, female-only and genderless species.
  • Transformed Pokemon
    • Pokemon that can or have transformed into a gijinka by some means. They are basically the same as a gijinka character except that they are technically a full-fledged Pokemon and aspects such as their age and history may take this into account.
  • Talking Pokemon
    • Pokemon that don't transform but have learned to communicate with people and adapt to society. Their history should explain why and how they became talking Pokemon.
      • Clothing and accessories are allowed, but it must be considered how they would be able to dress themselves day-to-day. Try to keep it simple or else bring in an NPC to help them. Note that hair may only be given in the form of wigs.
      • Like merfolk, fish must have some means of getting around and surviving on land.
      • Only one talking Pokemon character is permitted per member. This includes Primary NPCs.

Variations

We allow for several different kinds of variations to your characters and pets, including a number of color options, slight mutations, and glitching.

  • Colorations

    • Characters and pets are not restricted to normal colorations and there are no limitations on shinies- we also allow for real world color variations such as melanistic and albino! Please read the color lists below for more information.
      • You can combine colorations (ex: a pied shiny) but try not to go overboard! Many of these color variants would be considered uncommon and an individual with three or more combined would be exceedingly rare.
      • Other color variations may also be accepted, but please contact staff for permission before choosing an unlisted color type.
  • Canon Colors
    • Normal - A Pokemon's standard coloration. This should be the most common.
    • Shiny - A Pokemon's official alternate coloration.
    • Retro - A Pokemon whose coloration is based on old game sprites or official artwork, such as those from Generation I or Generation II.
    • Pinkan - A Pokemon whose coloration has turned pink through the consumption of Pinkan berries. Available for pets only.
      • Due to their protected status, Pinkan Pokemon are very rare. Naturally Pinkan pets are restricted to Kanto region Pokemon, and should have a good explanation as to how they were obtained.
      • However, a Pinkan Pokemon from any region can be acquired if bred using the Pet Shop's services.
    • Magikarp Patterns - Special variants of Magikarp bred and imported from Hoppy Town. Available for pets only.
  • Real World Colors
    • Leucistic - The reduction of all pigments, causing a Pokemon to become fully white. Eyes usually retain their normal coloration.
      • Note: Leucistic individuals are more susceptible to sunburns.
    • Pied - The result of incomplete leucism, pied Pokemon may possess their natural coloration, but with patches of white.
    • Albino - The reduction of melanin and sometimes other pigments; Pokemon become white with pink skin and red, pink, or pale eyes. Some may become whitish with red or yellow hues. Albinism is less common in birds.
      • Note: Albinos suffer from poor eyesight, photosensitivity, and are more susceptible to sunburns.
    • Melanistic - An abundance of melanin pigment, causing a Pokemon to become darker in color, even black. Melanism is generally rarer than albinism, but is more common in felines.
    • Erythristic - The production of too little or too much pigment, giving a Pokemon a more red, red-brown, or orange coloration. Bug Pokemon may also come in varying shades of pink.

  • Mutations

    • Characters and pets may have slight alterations to their Pokemon features, such as being fluffier than normal, having flopped ears or altered markings. Pokemon characters and pets must still be clearly recognizable as their species.
      • Surgically altered features, such as a docked tail or cropped ears, can also be acceptable, but please keep in mind that these surgeries can be very painful.
      • You may model a character or pet after a Pokemon's old game sprites or official artwork, whose features may differ from the current official design. (ex: Vaporeon's game sprites in Generation I)

  • Glitches

    • Glitches exist in our setting as a health condition, much like a disorder, and may affect characters and pets alike. Treatments known as "patches" exist, but due to the volatile nature of glitches, the overall success of such treatments often varies.
      • Glitching may affect an individual's appearance, but Pokemon characters and pets must still be recognizable as their species. Any changes must be well thought out and appropriate- gaping wounds and anything else of a graphic nature will not be accepted.
      • Individuals affected by glitches often suffer from additional health problems aside from the specific effects of the glitch, such as mental and physical disorders and compromised immune systems. If choosing a glitched character or pet, please be certain to mention how glitching has impacted their health.
      • Please also be aware that glitching can be contagious and that some glitched individuals may have suffered avoidance or prejudice in their life as a result.
      • A character and their starter pet may both be glitched as long as the effects of glitching for one is less than the other. For example, a glitched species or glitched hybrid character, whose entire being is glitched, may possess a pet with a glitched moveset, especially if the pet acquired its moves from its owner.
    • We currently accept two kinds of glitching- glitched species, glitched hybrids, and glitched moves or abilities.
      • All glitched characters and pets must still have a valid moveset, meaning that no glitch moves will be accepted.
  • Glitched Species
    • Glitches based on real glitch Pokemon encountered in the games. They do not have an ability and must follow the type, moveset and evolution path listed on their Bulbapedia page. Glitched species are freely available for characters only. Glitch pets may be purchased from our Adoption Center.
      • Glitched species characters must have a valid type to be approved. If they are a dual-type Pokemon with a valid/glitch pairing (ex: Normal/999), simply remove the glitched type. If none of their types are valid, the glitch Pokemon may not be used.
      • Glitch Pokemon that inherit another Pokemon's moveset, such as the Fossil and Ghost forms of MissingNo., must state what Pokemon's moveset they are using either under Moves or Other Information.
      • If you are uncertain or have questions about a glitch Pokemon, feel free to contact us!
  • Glitched Hybrids
    • Glitches based loosely on unstable hybrids‍. They have the outer appearance and primary genetics of one Pokemon, but the type, ability, and moveset of another.
      • Hybrids may have some elements of their secondary species in their design, such as features, markings, or altered coloration.
      • To qualify as a glitched hybrid, the Pokemon whose type, ability and moveset they have must be stated either in Pokemon or Other Information, and how they became a hybrid must be explained. This condition may be inherited or acquired through methods such as transformation.
  • Glitched Moves/Abilities
    • Glitches that give an individual moves or an ability that they would not normally have. They may be inherited or acquired either through exposure or with a move or ability-changing skill.
      • Glitched moves and abilities must be marked as glitched and have an explanation of their origin. They do not need to be based on a real glitch, but one such as the Mimic Glitch may be used to explain how a glitched move was obtained.
      • Moves and ability cannot both be glitched, unless your character or pet is a glitched hybrid.

Pets

Characters are permitted pets in the form of Pokemon. They can be genderless and should follow gender canon. Legendary and glitch Pokemon may be purchased from the Adoption Center or occasionally given out as event prizes.
  • Characters may start off with one pet, but it cannot be over the Basic stage in an evolution line. This does not include Baby Pokemon-- for example, if you want a Pikachu, you do not need to get a Pichu first.
    • A character's starter pet must be declared within the first two weeks of joining, or you will have to purchase them later. These pets will not be able to be given to another character unless their "starter" position is exchanged with another pet in the character's possession.
  • You can evolve, purchase, and breed pets at the Pet Shop.
  • Pets may be transferred when swapping characters, but keep in mind that any new starter pet will replace the previous character's starter pet if they had one.
  • You may claim a Pokemon Egg as your starter pet in place of an already hatched Pokemon. This may be done in the same manner as the purchasable Mystery Eggs or you can decide the species for yourself, as long as it adheres to the rules above.
    • Please notify an administrator when your egg hatches so that we may update our documents accordingly.
  • Pets may be talking Pokemon if they have a reason why they can speak, or assume a Gijinka form if they have a method of doing so, as long as they behave primarily as pets and do not act as additional characters.
  • You can have up to six active pets per character. Any additional pets will be listed under Inactive in the Pet Storage Bank. Inactive pets may not participate in some pet-related events, but can still be bred for an additional fee.
  • Pets may be transferred between a member's characters or to another member via the Bank. This service may also be used to switch a pet's status from active to inactive, and vice versa, for an additional fee.
  • Memorial Pets - Members who lose a real life pet may request to acquire a free pet Pokemon to have in their memory.
    • Simply message us and tell us a bit about your beloved pet- their name, how they looked, what they were like, how long you had them- and what kind of Pokemon that you would like them to be!
    • Memorial pets may be of any evolution stage, so feel free to choose whatever Pokemon would suit them best. If you can't decide, we can help you out!
    • Please also don't forget to specify whether you want them to be given to a character or placed in your storage list!

NPCs

Non-Player Characters are permitted in Pokecino and follow many of the same rules as regular characters, but there is no minimum age restriction and up to two of a member's NPCs can be legendary Pokemon, with the exception of Arceus, the Ultra Beasts, Necrozma and Eternatus.

All adult NPCs must be accompanied by or supporting a main character when used in public RPs, artwork or written submissions.

In general, NPCs do not require character sheets, but there are three classes of NPC character types that do...
  • Primary NPCs
    • A vital NPC that is so important to your character that you require a reference for them. They could be anything from hired help to family, and are the most likely to appear in submissions and public RPs.
    • All members start off with one Primary NPC slot. Additional Primary NPCs may be purchased at the Front Desk.

To qualify, fill out the NPC character sheet and apply for them at the Front Desk. We will send a request for their character sheet upon approval. (You will not be paid for this submission.)
      • Primary NPCs may have one pet of any evolution stage with them. Submissions for NPC pet sheets will not be accepted but may be linked to from their profile.
    • Primary NPCs can be changed at no cost, but we do ask that they not be swapped out regularly and at minimum will have a two month wait before being able to be switched.

  • Child NPCs
    • Any children under the age of 15 that are in your character's care. This could be their own offspring, or that of a close relative or friend.
      • Once the child has reached 16 years of age, they will lose their Child NPC status. You may, at this point, convert them into a Primary NPC, or purchase rights to them as a full character.
    • Each character may have up to three Child NPCs attached to them. Note that this does not include children submitted by their spouse, so two characters may share up to a total of six Child NPCs.

To qualify, fill out the Child NPC character sheet and apply for them at the Front Desk. We will send a request for their character sheet upon approval. (You will not be paid for this submission.)
      • Child NPCs over the age of 5 may have one pet of any evolution stage. Submissions for NPC pet sheets will not be accepted but may be linked to from their profile.
    • In special regards to...
      • Adopted Children - Adopted offspring of characters should not look like a mix of their adoptive parents. You may, of course, adopt within the same species, but the child should not share any distinct traits.
        • Also keep in mind that characters under age 20 may have a harder time adopting children, as many adoption agencies have age requirements for prospective parents. This process takes time, regardless of age, ranging in completion from months to years.
      • Legendary Children - Legendary offspring will require evidence of recent legendary lineage to be approved. This means that they must have either a legendary NPC parent, or legendary grandparent or great grandparent.
        • A very good explanation must be provided in the event of adopting a legendary child, including why they were orphaned and why they were specifically placed within your character's care. We may rarely approve this, given the rarity and unlikelihood of orphan legendary offspring.

  • Group NPCs
    • NPCs that are owned by the group are kept in the main NPCs folder and are available for all members to utilize. They may be featured in artwork and writing, and used to fulfill a role when you do not have another character available for the part.
    • We are not actively accepting applications for Group NPCs and will be adding them as-needed or on a case-by-case basis.

Town Staff

Town Staff are playable characters who serve as Tritoma Town's management and service representatives. They are free to be used in roleplay, artwork and written submissions, and can participate in events.
  • Town Staff mostly follow the same rules as regular characters, with the exception that their free starter pet may be of any evolution stage. They also come with a free NPC character slot, but the NPC must be staff-related, such as an assistant or co-worker.
  • Like regular characters, Staff must also pay monthly rent and taxes. Transfer of a member's funds from another character to their Staff character is limited to 1,000 Poke for every two months. Other members may not transfer Poke of any amount to a Staff character that is not their own.
    • Unlike regular characters, Staff may not gamble their funds at the casino or any other gambling service. This does not include buying predictions at the Bar.
  • Staff characters cannot be purchased but instead must be applied for when a position opens.
    • To qualify, a member must be active within the group for at least a month and acknowledge that their Staff character may be used by moderators in official group-related artwork.
    • To apply, select an open position from the Help Wanted list, create a character suitable for the role, and note the group with your character's application. Please be sure to dress them suitably for the job.
    • If approved, a request will be sent for their character sheet to be added to the appropriate folder. For service representatives, a quote and fullbody for their service will be required.
  • A member may have up to two Town Staff characters at a time. Please note that owning a Town Staff character does not make a member a moderator for the group.

Inn Guests

Inn Guests are temporary playable characters that can be bought from our Inn Service with a per month (30 days) fee. They are free to be used in roleplay, artwork and written submissions for the duration of the time purchased.
  • Inn Guests mostly follow the same rules as regular characters. They may bring in one pet but it cannot be over the Basic stage in an evolution line. Submissions for Inn pet sheets will not be accepted but may be linked to from their profile.
    • However, Inn Guests may be listed on their profile as possessing pets that are held in your storage, but they will still be treated as inactive pets. Just let us know if they will be holding any of your inactive pets when you make your Inn purchase so we do not mistake them for being an Inn pet.
    • Up to three characters can be brought in together as an Inn Family. These characters must be related and share a single character sheet. Like Inn Guests, Inn Families may collectively bring in only one pet at or below the Basic stage.
  • All artwork and written submissions for Inn Guests must be submitted to the Inn Life folder. Points will be awarded to the Inn Guest at half the normal payout rate (ex: 250 for memes) and may only be used to extend their stay at the inn or to purchase rights to them as a full character.
    • If full rights are bought, the fee paid for any time remaining will be discounted from your purchase and all remaining points earned by the Inn Guest will be transferred over to their new character status.
    • Inn Guest sketches will not be accepted.
  • Upon approval, a request will be sent for their character sheet and they will be added to the Roster with an until date marking when their Inn Guest status will expire, after which they will be removed and submissions for them will no longer be accepted.

Any changes to these rules will be announced in the Group Update.

Excuse me, what would the
age of a Pokémon have to do
with its age after it has
become a gijinka?
Perhaps I'm misinterpeting,
but it sound like it is implied
that Pokémon have different
age spans than humans/gijinka.
