Happy New Year!
Hm. It's January 2 now. NOT IN CALIFORNIA! WOO! Let it be known that for this piece and this piece only, I reside in California. Yes.

Ah, Prim. So tragic. :(
I never really liked Prim that much until Mockingjay, when she stands up for Katniss when she's in the hospital. Then I realized, This girl's barking brilliant! And I was a fan. For like, ten chapters. Then stupid Gale goes and KILLS her. :iconcryforeverplz:

My family and I were listening to the Hunger Games audio tapes traveling during Christmas break, and I remembered my love for this little duck. So I drew her in the car, with bumpy roads and barely any light, and it came out as the thing I am most proud of drawing thus far. And yet my scanner murdered it. So you can't tell what a totally legit job I did. Which makes me sad.

Anyway...
Remind you of her sister?
Like I said, I was never a huge fan of the girlish, innocent Prim, so I decided to draw her as she was when I fell in love with her: experienced, skilled, wizened, and with eyes that had seen much more than a thirteen year-old ever should. She knows what's going on and she means business, and she isn't going to let herself or her sister be pushed around.

One of the reasons I have such a strong love/hate relationship with THG is because just as characters are beginning to have some substance and you can relate to them, they get killed off. Yet they are still amazing books, and I don't think that would be so if most of the characters were allowed to live. The books are very powerful emotionally, and seeing characters that you were just getting to know die is at the core of that aspect of the series.

...sorry, I didn't mean to get all ranty there.

Anyway, the drawing is just mechanical pencil with no. 2 lead on printer paper. I couldn't remember what exactly the clothes were described as in District 13, so I went with what I vaguely recall, which is gray, unflattering clothes, which basically translates to sweats for me. I managed to give her some pretty shoes, though. c:

The lovely background is a combination of two watercolor textures by ~cgarofani. All of her work is beautiful and brightens up any work of art! I've used one of her textures before in this picture of Luna Lovegood: [link]

Rest in peace, Prim.
