Nobu was earlier known as Mikio (even though I think I am the only one that has ever called him that, loool ~), lived together with Meya at the Academy, and as the time passed a bond of rivaly grew between them. Nobu was annoyed with Meya always being better than him, so he started training extra, but she still beat him. His goal then became to surpass her.
Meya simply found his hair color funny... No, no, she also found a somewhat support in him in the horrible time at the Academy of loneliness and starvation.

Except from him being very competitive, he's a very laid-back person, often happy and satisfied. He's very artisitc, being able to play all kinds of instruments, writing good stories and draw nicely.
