Description

Sunday, so a new Chapter of Crucible is here! [link] Yet again from the brilliant Sister-to-the-Queen! [link]
Everyone, go, read it, break your hearts and crush your souls!

This is my take on Chapter Ten: Storm.
(Yep, this came after the scrap I've already submitted. I needed about an hour to have this concept, but most of it passed by simply trying to keep breathing. So truthfully, the concept itself took but a few minutes.)

And the usual few notes and explanations.
1. The title plays with the title of the whole brilliant story: Crucible.

2. Crucible is the text engraved at the bottom of the scales. (Enochian script from here: [link])

3. The whole piece: basically scales of justice holding our usual two broken angels. Caphriel to the left, Zirah to the right. Reaching out towards each other... Go. Read. The. Chapter.
Both have a weak aura of light - there is something angelic in them still. Though it is practically invisible by Caphriel.

4. On Aziraphale's side, it's the moment when all hell breaks loose. Cracking scales, opening rift, boiling ocean, pillars of sand, storm on the sky, aflame at the top.

5. On Caphriel's side: darkness all around - either he cares that little about the environment, or he's just an image in the swirly black mirror... You can choose :)
Since physically he's in the bookshop, i didn't find it so impossible that a few torn sheets of paper would be falling around him. With a poem on them. Because this Chapter was just too freaking awesome to stick to one sort of art. Poem posted here: [link]

6. At the top of the scales, it's a 3D-version all-seeing-eye. At least it wanted to be.

7. The arms of the scales, as well as the strange rings around it ant the little crown towards the bottom... thorn. Guess why. or don't. But then go back and read the previous chapters. And think of a strange little girl...

8. One more thing about the background: partly for the sake of continuity between illustrations, partly for the sheer symbolic value of it. An imperfect jin-jang sign...? Noticeable? :)

I hope you like this :) or I've just wasted somewhat more tha four hours of my life. yey!

*you are the human microwave!*
Mystery? True. But I repeat: coincidences do not exist.

Don't know why, but that 'Go kids go!' makes me giggle like crazy.
(No, you haven't, but I understand what you mean. It's like with reviews: different pairs of see different things. Shows that the art has meaning to other people than just the creator. *nodnod*)

(in February. thank you for putting me on pins and needles. again)

(Point, although there are angels and demons in Islam, as well. But, yeah, the alphabet from where Aziraphale and Caphriel are originally from is more fitting, somehow.)

Jolt of...? Oh, you want me to sing a song? Okay. *sings* Are you going to Scarborough Fair/Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme/Remember me to one who lives there/He once was a true love of mine...
I agree. The scalepans - yes, that's the right word - not tipping is an excellent metaphor of Aziraphale and Caphriel's powerlessness. Kudos to you.
And for some reason, I just love that the position of the wings is instinctive: it's the little details that tell the despair. In a more balanced state - yes, I use that word intentionally - they'd have much more control.
(If you please, yes. I rather like the face.)
AN EYE. OH MY GOD.

I won before we got started. *flattened with mattress*
