Description
While Crypt Shards are greatly desired tools of Necromancers few have the ability to fully control their housed power. While they have been known to form unnaturally in extremely rare cases, they more often than not have to be hand made. Their production process is a well kept secret of the Necromancer Elite.
In order to create one the raw materials for the Focuser crystal must be implanted directly into the brain of young woman. In this process it is key that the host be capable of surviving the process for as long as possible.
As the gems grow in their brain the woman is wracked in intense pain imaginable. Their agony stimulates the growth of the shard and infuses it with their psychic energies. Overwhelmingly all hosts of this process turn undead as a side effect of the shards power. They could be removed from their bodies at this point but then the Lich would lose a valuable layer of defense against potential thieves.
While most undead have a need to feed upon the flesh and blood of the living a Focuser just wants the pain to stop. They attempt to do so by wailing in agony seeking to share their pain with anyone in proximity. Those unfortunate enough to have wandered too close to such an abomination will be driven insane within a few short minutes. Those who get close enough to be attacked physically will have their body absorbed into that of the Focuser in an attempt to dull their agony by spreading it across multiple minds. This has the effect of greatly enhancing a Crypt Shards overall potential.
The banshee like wails of psychic agony can be felt from up to several miles away by passers by. They usually flee in terror after hearing the pained cries of countless girls.
