:thumb296178559: Free Photomanip Critiques!!! Yes, really!Hey everyone! Guess what? :eager:
Critique Night for Photomanipulation is next WEDNESDAY, APRIL 18th at 3 PM EASTERN TIME (9 Central European, 8 PM Western European, 12 NOON Pacific Standard Time) in :#communityrelations:.
YAY!...... Um, what is Critique Night?
I'm glad you asked! :D
Critique Night is a time when photomanipulators from all groups and of all styles can come together to share our work and receive some constructive feedback from others in the community. It is a time to share tips and ideas and to talk about our trade. :excited:
You love feedback, right? As long as it is given in a constructive manner that will help you improve? :nod:Or, perhaps you like to GIVE feedback to others so they can learn from the way others see their work. Or, maybe you just want to spend some time hanging out with some of the coolest artists out there. Or, heck, all three! :XD:
Regardless, Critique Night is for you! :squee:
What do I have to do?

Making your Terms of Use Clear

IreneLangholm makes an incredibly good point in her recent journal linked above, one that directly comes back to YOU the stock provider.  We mentioned this during our Project Educate week, Please do everything you can to make your stock terms of use absolutely CLEAR and CONCISE.
The use of your stock, the relationship and rapport you create between you and the artists who use your stock is of great importance, and isn't something you should ignore.

Read this article for more information.
Your Personal Stock TermsThe Language You Use Is Very Important
deviantART has a large and devoted stock resource community and we really do appreciate their presence and their generosity with the community.
I do have something very important I'd like to mention for everyone who offers some sort of stock resource so hopefully those who read my journal will help to disseminate the information and spread it around to those who might not otherwise read it.
The concern that I have is Terms of Use.
Officially deviantART maintains only one "automatic" restriction and that is "No Commercial Use" and that particular restriction can easily be overridden by the actual stock provider.
As far as official policy is concerned each stock resource provider is free to attach any Terms of Use, restrictions or requirements that they see fit and I and my staff will do the best we can to help you enforce your rules when you need the assistance.
We only ask a few things from you in return.
Your terms or restrictions should b

Attention all "PREMADE" stock creators

We are once again seeing an increasing number of stock providers using stock from other commercial or free stock sites like SXC, dreamstime, Istock et al. for use in their premades.
Let me make it very clear to you -
THIS IS NOT ALLOWED.

By redistributing stock in "premades" you are directly violating the original stock sites terms of use. IE NO REDISTRIBUTION.  In every single stock sites licencing information is a significant paragraph relating to the redistribution of their stock images.. for example - SXC's state...
SXC Image Licence Agreement

You may not use the Image

  • For pornographic, unlawful or other immoral purposes, for spreading hate or discrimination, or to defame or
    victimise other people, sociteties, cultures.
  • To endorse products and services if it depicts a person.
  • In a way that can give a bad name to SXC or the person(s) depicted on the Image.
  • As part of a trademark, service mark or logo.
  • SELLING AND REDISTRIBUTION OF THE IMAGE (INDIVIDUALLY OR ALONG WITH
OTHER IMAGES) IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN! DO NOT SHARE THE IMAGE WITH
    OTHERS!
Please DON'T use stock in your premades unless you have absolutely explicit permission from the original provider.

Google is NOT a legitimate source of images either!

For more information please read this article by realitysquared who is DA's lead in the Copyright & Etiquette Administration Team. (CEA)
Problems with Stock ResourcesLock, Stock, and Barrel
It unfortunately appears that it is once again time to talk about proper stock resources again. I'll be addressing this in this week's CEA Update but I wanted to discuss it a bit informally here first.
I have a hope that some day the issue of stock resources will get straightened out because it really is not as complicated or as confusing as many people are currently forcing it to be, but I guess the nature of the internet pushes people to simply pull the old smash and grab.
I'm going to run down a brief listing of the various problems and pit falls currently affecting the issue of stock resources in general.
The Old Switcheroo
Now we all know there are a good number of legitimate, legal stock resource sites out there with some being free and some being pay sites. A good chunk of you all can name them off the top of your head so I won't bother to list them myself.
Now regardless of which one we might be taking about, they all share pretty much a common ru

PE S and R Sourcing Your ResourcesSourcing Your Resources
You may think that the creation and sharing of stock and resources is a no brainer.  Clearly however its not, and there are a growing number of deviants who for some reason or another seem to not be able to grasp the basic principles.
As the last article we will be launching for Stock & Resources Project Educate week, we are going to attempt to lay it out for you in clear and easy to understand terms.

Mourning for Icarus by H.J. Draper 1898
The Theme- ART:
We want you to recreate the story of Icarus, be that modern, or ancient using stock and resources available on DeviantART.
The Theme - STOCK:
We want you to recreate the story of Icarus, in stock form!  Is your Icarus male or female?  Are your wings made from feathers and wax or something more magical?
The Story: Icarus
Son of Daedalus who dared to fly too near the sun on wings of feathers and wax. Daedalus had been imprisoned by King Minos of Crete within the walls of his own invention, the Labyrinth. But the great craftsman's genius would not suffer captivity. He made two pairs of wings by adhering feathers to a wooden frame with wax. Giving one pair to his son, he cautioned him that flying too near the sun would cause the wax to melt. But Icarus became ecstatic with the ability to fly and forgot hi

How tired I am of seeing premades made from other people's stock - even if by chance the provider allows it, often it's just a fast way to get recognition with half a manip that would drown in the actual manips gallery. (Yes there are exceptions, but 90 % are just badly put together)

PS, you forgot the 77 at `WilderWein77 ;)
