Yeah! Our fellow swordfish, marlin, sailfish and kin go "bye bye" in the Neozoic (up to 150 million years from now) and this dolphinfish descendant fills their niche now. The convergence is striking, even though I only worked with features already present in the dolphinfish. I only slightly changed the fin shape. The biggest change is obviously the elongated "rostrum."
I'm quite fond of this concept, the dolphinfish is a big, strong and fast animal already, and this only takes it all a step further. ;)
I wonder if it still will be green on top with golden belly... =D

The idea comes from this cretaceous fish called Protosphyraena: [link] which was not at all related to recent swordfish and kin (it belonged to the extinct family Pachycormidae.) and this realization gave me the idea that the present time is not the only time when there was a spear-nosed aquatic animal, and that, in fact, there were some swordfish like ichthyosaurs too, including Eurhinosaurus and primitive Excalibosaurus, and then, of course, there was a cetacean with an elongated upper jaw at one time in the past. It was called "Eurhinodelphis." ;)
And when not dealing with "spears" exclusively, there is a payload of long-nosed fish, such as the paddlenose chimaera, paddlenose fish, the shark order Pristiophoriformes, and the ray family Pistridae, so why not, right? =D Why couldn't the dolphinfish become a Pinocchio loo-alike over the course of many tens of millions of years? =D

Ok, I'm in Maastricht at the moment and I'm seeing that I do have internet-connenction for some reason , so...

Great concept , now I'm going through some old files for the project I made a long time ago, I'm seeing that I've made a concept for an astonishing similar creature, also descended from the dolphinfish. The only difference is that mine also has an elongated lower jaw and teeth on it's jaws. ;)

I've also made some concepts for some future murene's, but I don't have a scanner here, so I won't be able to upload them until thursday or friday...
