Description

Posted in response to a query;-
(the final image and scene information can be found here... [link] )

Direct comparison of the results of pushing the samples per pixel to crazy levels. The rhs shows the result after 24 hour rendering to 12,000 s/p. The centre image is the output of the Lux render window shown on the lhs, after 257 hours and 126,320 s/p. Surprisingly the efficiency is only 95%.

I repeated this comparison every 24 hours to see if there was any difference in perceived quality. This is the difference between the first check point and the last check point. As can be seen here, the 12,000 s/p render is reasonably good. the difference is most evident in the foreground of the water, and if you look carefully, you can also see that the reflections in the torso are sharper and better defined.

The last two comparisons that I did at 100,000 and 112,000 showed no visible change to my eye. I let the render carry on to the 126,000 s/p as a double check of this.

Difference in the out of focus water is quite apparent, but 126k S/p Shocked

Maybe if I'm ever going away for a few days. But then, knowing my luck I'd come back to a burnt down house. :)
