Every week, we collect and feature the outstanding submissions to our gallery. If you're looking for quality literature to read, start here!

Each item is hand-picked by our admins and presented with a small introduction (we think this makes browsing literature easier). We don't seek perfection: we just choose interesting work and share it for critique, appreciation and encouragement.

We have a wonderfully powerful selection of pieces for you this week!  The end of May has brought out the best in our writers and we have something for almost everyone.  From the portrait of a working class man to Hannah's never-ending trips through Death.

We also had some new faces helping to put this Round-up together  our lovely new admin are here and making their presence known!
:new: We also have a great contest announcement at the bottom of this journal for all of you who are itching to write something inspired by a prompt.

Working Class by pomohippie7

A character portrait, painted in tones of honesty, respect and warmth.

Vivid poetry which is deceptively complex. On the one hand, it describes a man, a mechanic, concentrating on his work. But there's a deep respect captured in between the lines, an admiration of a craftsman which looks beyond the grease and the smoke.

The Minotaur by fervvent

In an American field hospital, an injured soldier is caught in the grips of insanity.

The Minotaur is a short story of equal parts disturbance and captivation. Inspired by the rambling passages of House of Leaves, fervvent slips with ease into her narrator's persona and twists the prose's structure to reflect his demented mind.

To Make it Right by NoOneSpecial75

Eighty-year old Hannah has never been anyone special.  Now she waits for death and finds that the "light at the end of the tunnel" is not what she expected at all.

NoOneSpecial75 brings us a brilliant piece exploring what might happen after a long and lonely life. Cycling through constant new and subtly different outcomes, the story is wrapped with solid technique and great, realistic characters.

Everyone is Sick Here by magicalisis

Poetry with heart and power. Everyone is sick here, coughing, sneezing, or fevered.

It's hard to escape the feeling of a production line or a factory in this haunting depiction of a hospital.  Excellent use of repetition reinforces the core themes and makes the ordinary seem, well...extra-ordinary.

Lovely New Staff

We'd like to warmly welcome PursuingTheCerberus and Inkfish7 to our Literature scout team! They'll be helping us compile these Round-ups each week, and are already making a great contribution to the group.

PursuingTheCerberus once won our prestigious Writer of the Month for his outstanding loyalty to the group. A fine poet in his own right, he's taking time out from his busy schedule to help feature and reward other members of the community.  Check out Star Swallower to sample his work!

Inkfish7 is relatiely new to deviantART, though you wouldn't know it from how well he's thrown himself into the community. A winner of a Daily Deviation for his brilliant sci-fi piece Archetype, Mike's also produced some excellent writing guides, which you can find in our Writing Resources folder.

It's a pleasure - no, a privilege - to have such talened and commited members on the team. Please make them feel welcome, everyone!

Another Write Off is on it's way!

Yes you read correctly!  After the success of our last Write Off chat event we just had to give it another go.  This time we're hoping that more members from big ol' America will be able to make it.

It will be in the usual place, the group Chatroom on Wednesday 27th June from 6pm PST (that's 11pm GMT) until around 8pm PST (that's 1am GMT).

We hope to see you there!

Want to know more? Have a look at the Write Off announcement.
We are also looking for prize donations, so if you're feeling generous and have excess love to give, then why not send monstroooo a note?

:icondailylitdeviations: and DD congratulations!

:bulletblack: It feels long overdue, but UchihaMorwen has received a Daily Deviation for the By The Hand of Bast, after our Round-up feature almost a year ago!

:bulletblack: In a spectacular almost-coincidence, congrats to our latest Literature Scout PursuingTheCerberus for a DD on Revolver In A Bag Of Puppets!

:bulletblack:  Congratulations to fervvent for receiving a DLD on her piece revel(ations)!

:bulletblack:  And finally, hip-hip-hurrah's to  TheGlassIris, who got a DLD for  Broken Smile after last week's Round-up feature! :boogie:
