My goodness, I am tired. Anyway, yesterday, I had the awesome opportunity to see Ashleigh Ball's band Hey Ocean! play a show in San Diego. (If the name sounds familiar, Ashleigh is the voice actress of Rainbow Dash and Applejack in MLP:FiM.) They rarely come down to the states as it is, and California is a rarity all it's own, so I jumped at the chance. It was really fun, but let me start at the beginning.

First off, I tried so hard (in vain) to kill time before the concert. So, I explored a lot of San Diego (I love my city). Finally, I came back to the Soda Bar where they would be playing. The bar itself was really small and really dark. Sadly, they only served alcohol and no soda (I was kinda hoping they would actually have soda). The bands stopped by around 8 PM. I got to see David Beckingham and Dave Vertesi play a couple games of Street Fighter II among the arcade machines while I was waiting for the first band (By the way, David Beckingham uses Blanka). There was a lot of time to kill, so thankfully I brought my DS with Pokemon White.

The first band started at around 9:20 and were called The Darrows. They reminded me of Death Cab For Cutie mixed with some shoegazing elements. I enjoyed them. Nothing to really write home about.

Then Hey Ocean! took the stage, and that's when the fans got up to stand near the stage. There were about fifteen people there to see them (I assume since it was only 21 and up, others couldn't stop by). They started off by playing "A Song About California" and then jumped into "Liar". They were simply amazing. Ashleigh made a joke between songs about the pole in front of the stage, stating that she wanted the audience to get dancing and have the pole get used tonight (as a striper pole). During the next song, she actually stepped off the stage and used it for a bit. At the end of their set, they played the song I was really hoping for, "Big Blue Wave". It was simply amazing.

Afterwards, I talked to the band and got two copies of their latest album IS. I also talked to Ashleigh for quite a bit. It seemed she remembered me from the MLP Project 2012 up in Los Angeles a few weeks back. I was quite honored she remembered, but she seemed even happier that I came by to see them and get their set. I was sad that nekomata091 couldn't come with to the show, but Ashleigh gave me an extra copy of their album to give to her. Ashleigh even commented that she liked my Adventure Time shirt that I wore. She is a very nice person to talk to. I really wish we could have chatted more.

Despite the smell of tobacco and alcohol, it was an amazing. If you get the chance to see them in concert? Do it. You will not regret it. Check here to see tour dates for them.
