Literature Text

"The Medusa upgrade." Samus said, selecting the upgrade from the list. She recalled that there were a few alien species named after the original human term, and that involved snakes. Since she seemed to be doing snakes recently, she thought that she might as well get those out of the way, and hey, maybe it'd be something useful for a change. She took the chip from the machine and inserted it into her zero suit, waiting for the changes to begin.

Immediately, Samus felt her scalp begin to tingle, and immediately felt it with her hand, running it through her hair to see what was happening. However, she couldn't find any immediate change, and decided to give it a minute. After half a minute, she noticed a rather thick lock of hair drop down over her eyes. She brushed it out of the way, only to have another drop down. And another. Which was odd, since she kept the front half of her hair specifically cut to keep out of her eyes.

She began to walk towards the mirror to take a look at herself, and stopped suddenly as the band holding her ponytail snapped, sending her hair cascading down her back, reaching more than halfway down and continuing. Well, Samus thought, at least she knew what was happening now. And what was happening was that her hair just kept growing and growing, until her bangs draped over her eyes, her side-bangs had grown longer enough to fall from the sides of her neck all the way down past her breasts, and her hair at the back reached her feet, as wide as she was, almost draping along the ground as she stood there.

Brushing more hair out of her eyes, Samus decided that she might as well go have a proper look at herself in the mirror, and started to walk towards it. Started being the key word, as she quickly stepped on her huge hair, getting it tangled underneath her feet and legs as she walked, almost tripping over as she quickly stopped, unable to see from all the hair in her eyes, wishing that her hair would just get out of her eyes so she could at least see where she was going.  And to her surprise, her hair suddenly parted away from her eyes, and staying that way, even when she shook it.

Surprised at the development, she wished that her hair would move away from her legs, her long tresses quickly moving away from her legs. Feeling that she'd grasped what was going on, she wished it to wrap around her torso to test what she could do, her hair quickly wrapping around said torso to comply. As she tightened the grip slightly, she began to feel a slight sensation of pressure coming from her hair, like a very muffled version of the feeling she'd get from grasping something in her own hands.

Deciding to test out her new control, Samus walked towards a few crates lying around, filled with miscellaneous bits of electronics and materials, a smaller canister lying on top. She willed her hair to form into multiple tendrils, attempting to grab the canister. Her attempts were clumsy at first and just knocked over the can, but she concentrated and quickly got used to it, grabbing the can and bringing it back to her.  From how easily she held it, she figured that her hair must be at least as strong as her arms were, although she wouldn't trust it to pull herself up anything.

"Hmm… I could get used to something like this…" Samus said to herself, letting her hair fall out of its tendrils.
Well, yet another rewrite of an earlier entry. Hopefully this addressed a some of the problems with the original. One thing I've noticed is length, in that the more recent ones are much, much longer than the early ones. I can still get them out just as quickly, when I'm not putting off actually working on them, but the actual process of writing is just as fast. Which is always great. And besides, I like things with stupidly long hair far too much.

Anyway, the opening paragraph is subject to change, since I don't think the Medusa is a very good name for this upgrade. So, if you have any better ideas, feel free to leave them in a comment.

Anyway, request and comment as usual.
