They say a place exists for those who are lost. Perhaps it exists, and maybe it really doesn't. But I know I have caught a glimpse of something that could be that place. It hovers just between waking consciousness and sleep, somewhere that isn't touched by everyday life. And at the same time that place is subtly affected by that life.

I snuggle down the neon lime pavement with a smile on my face and a tightly-coiled spring in my step. The thundercloud sun bobs in the gravy sky and the barking trees smell delicious as ever. All is as happy as a pig in candyfloss.

Using the spare key that I had been given, I unlock the door to my brother's apartment and slide it open a hair. "Alex?" I inquire in a soft voice while peaking tentatively inside. An uneasy silence is the only response.
