Please note that this is an old FAQ. Many things said here are no longer true of me or my life. I'm leaving it untouched for archival purposes.

Help with Your Work

O goddess of writing... will you help me?
If you stop calling me a goddess.

Will you edit/review my short story/first chapter/character profile?
I'd be happy to help you! However, since it's a very time-consuming process, I ask for payment in return. Check out the commission info on my page for details. :aww:

I'm so worried! Is my character a Mary Sue?
I get this question a lot. I am not the expert on Mary Sues, so I can't reach down from the heavens, shining with holy author light, and pass eternal judgment on your awe-stricken and trembling character. The term Mary Sue is subjective, so a binary answer is impossible.

If you comment with a quick paragraph or two, I can give some basic tips. If you'd like an in-depth review, check out the commission info on my page. I'd be happy to offer my advice!

My Work

Where can I read your book?
Nowhere.
It's still in the editing process, and a few parts of it need... um... major revision, so I have no plans for showing it to the public soon. I plan on publishing it via traditional methods or online.

What programs do you use?
All my art (including Writer's Guide preview images) is done in Manga Studio 5. I use Gimp for pixel art.

I recommend both programs. MS5 sells for less than $30 on Amazon and Gimp is free to download. (Just Google it!)

How did you code _______?
Just drop me a comment or note and I'll tell you.

You're so smart and I feel dumb in comparison to you.
Why are you comparing yourself to me? Even if I'm a better writer than you are, I may not be as good at baking cookies, playing saxophone, or understanding biology. Because seriously, I can scarcely remember the difference between mitosis and meiosis.

Besides, I...
:bulletblue: do not watch TV (giving me more time to practice)
:bulletblue: have no social life
:bulletblue: go months without updating my Facebook status
:bulletblue: never attend parties
:bulletblue: get up at 4:30 am to write and draw... every day

Are you sure you want to be like me? I hope not! Cultivate your own strengths instead, and if you devote time and thought to them, your practice will shine through your work.

Personal

You aren't answering my note/comment/whatever!
I'm really sorry about that. I don't get around to answering my messages every day, and my inbox fills up more quickly than I can empty it. Sometimes things get buried.

Do you want me to address it? I do not mind gentle reminders. I may have misplaced your comment!

You get up at 4:30 am? How do you do that?
I go to bed around 8 and I use an alarm clock. Since I'm in college and the walls are thin, I slip a vibrating alarm clock into my sock. Then when it rings, I bolt out of bed and turn on the lights.

Why do you spend most of your time drawing characters instead of writing more writer's guides?
Like thousands of other deviants, I have characters whose stories and development are very important to me. Writer's Guides, while fun, are time-consuming to draft and edit, and it's more difficult to pull together enough material worthy of a guide. If you're looking for an article-churning machine, you might be better off visiting the place where they print newspapers.

Why do you have an FAQ?
Because it makes me feel special.

This FAQ is a work in progress, and you are welcome to suggest additions.

Ohoho, so you started charging for feedback, huh? :iconiseeplz:
I think I'll consider asking for a critique in the future.
