Magical-moments asked me to write some tutorials for her group . So I will try to create a series of small tutorials covering some basic techniques and tips for taking close-up photographs. I haven't been 'in the field' for long, but in that short while I did learn a lot by doing. Although I'm not a professional or an expert, I hope I can teach other beginners and hobbyists new tricks!
For this tutorial I will focus on backgrounds. When taking a flower or still life close-up, you want the object to be the focus of your capture. So one of the most important things you have to keep in mind is what's in the background. Other objects or a background with many different colours or patterns may distract the attention off of the object. So avoid textured walls, garden chairs, buckets, tree trunks and so on! Try to pick out background colours which complement the colour of your object, but is lighter or darker than the object. The first three pictures are examples in which there are too many distractions in the background:
The next three pictures are good examples of ideal backgrounds. It's a coincidence that three out of four are green.

... on my way back to dA!
Hi there, dA!
Long time, no see! The last couple of months my life has banned me from dA, and even from my camera. I hadn't taken a picture since April, I believe. I've graduated university, was lucky enough to find a job immediately (I don't really like it, but hey, it's a job), and in order to get the pay grade I should get, I have to follow a three-semester course for some silly certificate. So I've been quite busy setting up my new way of life. But now my life seems to be settling a bit.
But GREAT news : I stumbled upon an amazing deal for a Canon 1100D with a 18-55 lens kit and a second lense (Canon EF 70-300). :woohoo: I've don
NOT leaving dA.
F*ck the ponies, I'm staying.
Hi my dear watchers,
I've seen many good artists leave dA because it wasn't working for them anymore. And I've been feeling the same way. I can't even watch the homepage anymore, all you see is ponies and porn. Some tacky picture of a girl showcasing here you-know-what gets more appreciation than the most beautiful nature photographs, let alone abstract and street ones. But I'm not ready to stop sharing my photos yet, so I'm looking for an alternative, some better (but still free) photo sharing service.
I already have a 500px account which I have left unused for quite some time now, I miss the community aspect
