the staff here at Spirals-and-Swirls has decided to have a contest!
we talked about it a long time and finally came up with a theme that we think will allow everyone to participate, without being too specific so you can't express yourselves the way you want.
the theme is "flora and fauna."
obviously spirals and/or swirls have to be an important part of your work. any medium, any subject within the theme is great!
the staff, some, or all (including myself!) are going to make token entries.
the contest will run from today 7am monday july 9 to 7am thursday august 9. i'll put a countdown on the front page so you'll know exactly how long you have.
prizes--
there will be three winners, NOT a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. the three winners all receive the same prizes--
200 points and a shared front page slide show feature.
the staff will have one week after the contest to judge the entries.
so have fun! you've go plenty of time! i hope this will inspire you to create something new!

the group is officially closed but i didn't delete it so it can be used as an archive.

closing the group but....
one of our clever members suggested that we go ahead and close the group, but not delete it. we have a huge archive, from a group that had talented members and awesome work, over the past 6 years. we almost have 2,000 members now, so there's a lot of stuff in there, good stuff! if anyone wants inspiration or entertainment, all those thousands of deviations will still be here!

closing the group
i'm afraid i have some bad news. we are closing spirals and swirls. offermoord (https://www.deviantart.com/offermoord) and i are no longer able to run it at the high quality level we've always kept the group at. we spent a lot of time and thought into it, and i think we had a lot of people who enjoyed the group. we had fun with it, too. now, we will say goodbye.
i'm sorry, my dear members, the group will close in a couple of days. i want people to see the journal first.
i have already closed the folders to submissions and we will not vote on submissions waiting to be voted on. thanks.
