Basically, what changed is that Ryne latched onto computer science instead of math. Computer code is as equally consistent and logical as numbers. Also, Mr. Skaggs, instead of holding down multiple jobs to save the Skaggs’ financial situation, turned to a mafia family (not his current family) for loans and racked up a lot of debt. Ryne was and still is unaware of this.

Besides that, everything is the same up to the car ‘accident.’ Nobody was able to prove it, but it seemed that it was a hit ordered by the mafia family to which Mr. Skaggs owed money. However, the driver made a mistake, killing Mr. Skaggs and heavily injuring Tane in the crash instead of simply hurting at least one of the twins. The tactic was meant to scare Mr. Skaggs into paying up faster; how were they supposed to get their money back if he was dead? While Mrs. Skaggs figured this out, Ryne didn’t and still doesn’t know.

Afraid for her life, Mrs. Skaggs planned to take Tane and flee the city. While she was trying to convince a surgeon to swap Tane’s failing heart for Ryne’s healthy one, Ryne accessed one of the hospital computers, trying to hack it to find a suitable heart donor. (He didn’t even think about the fact that he was a perfect match, otherwise he definitely would have offered himself to save Tane’s life.) He got into an encrypted part of the computer showing records of illegal organ trafficking related to the mafia. That was when Tane requested Ryne’s presence, so Ryne left the computer and unknowingly ended Tane’s life by taking out his IV needle as his twin asked him to.

Meanwhile, virtual alarms had been set off by Ryne’s intrusion; while he’d been easily able to hack the database, he hadn’t thought about covering up his tracks simply because he hadn’t been really aware he was doing anything wrong, just trying to expedite the process of finding a heart donor. Hannes’s hackers were the first to respond, and when they tapped into security footage, they were shocked to see that it had been a 15-year-old boy who’d broken through their system protection.
Now that Tane was dead, Mrs. Skaggs didn’t care for Ryne, so she fled the city by herself. Hannes knew that Ryne was now orphaned, and it was obvious he had great talent for hacking, so the man took pity on the boy and just scooped him right up.

Ryne has now been in Hannes's family for 3 years.

[ADDITIONAL INFORMATION]:
One time the hackers’ place got physically invaded by enemies, and Ryne panicked and basically threw everything in sight at the intruders, including heavy desks, metal file cabinets full of papers, and even the computers. It worked, but needless to say, his fellow hackers were nooot too happy about how he’d destroyed their tech. Therefore, one of Ryne’s coworkers got him a baseball bat to keep by his desk to use in a fight instead of the desk itself, lol.
Someone else gave him brass knuckles to lessen the effects of Newton's 3rd Law. The equal and opposite reaction of all that strength isn't kind to one's hands.
He stutters somewhat less in this AU.
