Description

:bulletred: I'll try and have the Intermediate app up soon - family stuff is limiting my free time right now but I can probably get the text done fairly quickly ^^; Sorry for any inconvenience. :bulletred:

Trying to rewrite as much as I can. Bleh, I am so bad at maintaining characters' personalities! Not that Lirit ever had much of a personality to start with ^^; But yes so much WIP I don't even

:bulletblack: -Basic Information- :bulletblack:
Name: Lirit Alariel
Age: 18-ish
Height: 5’ 5" (two inches~)
Species: A crossbreed with attributes from many different species. His best guess is maybe a third or so human, a quarter demon and the rest miscellaneous species that don’t have any impact worth mentioning.

:bulletblack: -Academic Information- :bulletblack:
Level: Intermediate
Current Classes: CRS 203 (Ancient Grimoires), MDC 201 (Anaesthetics and Pain Reduction), PTS 102 (Introduction to Potion Herbs)
Passed Classes: OTW 105 (Introduction to Sigils), MDC 101 (Introduction to Medicine), CRS 103 (Hex Signs)
Experience: 221 at the time of writing

(here the updatedness ends. beware: there be errors of draconian proportion)

-Personal Information-
Likes: Lirit finds most new knowledge interesting whatever it concerns, but he particularly favours science and anything that could even hypothetically be used in a practical setting. When the fatigue and blurry vision have convinced him that he has studied enough for the night, he will likely relax by reading fantasy and science fiction until he falls asleep with his head on the pages. Somewhat understandably, he has taken to strong coffee to keep him sane and fairly coherent. Rare steak with plenty of salt and pepper and assorted sauces is Lirit's favourite food, although he also likes most other kinds of meat and, come to think of it, food in general, as long as it isn't bland. Red and green are his preferred colours when it comes to clothes or walls.

Experimentation, especially when it ventures into formerly unexplored areas
A challenge
New and/or interesting ideas and concepts
Learning things he views as useful. He likes reading for fun as well as knowledge if there isn’t anything more productive to do
Meat, especially steak or pork, preferably rare
Food with plenty of spices and condiments
Strong black coffee
New, creative applications of old concepts and strange combinations of said concepts
Red and green
Gardening or similar nurturing activities (e.g. fungus or bacterium cultures)
Talking to himself
Symbols, sigils, rituals, organized chaos and elaborate equipment, for aesthetic reasons as much as anything else
Intelligent conversation
Feeling important
Early morning walks

Dislikes: Being doubted for his technical ability or his ability to learn
Being called or thought of as a liar; liars
Displays of strong emotion
Being forced to learn things he views as useless
Bland or mild food
Tea, especially herbal tea
Fish as a food. He doesn’t like living fish much either because they’re so grey and gormless. He knows this is a silly reason and therefore doesn’t like other people finding out about his dislike of fish much
Being taunted about his mixed ancestry or being called names
Light grey and pastel colours
Being ignored or overlooked
Being ill. Ill people generally
Boats, due to his seasickness
Obstructive irrationality

Fears: Lirit could well be called a coward or paranoid. To the onlooker, he isn't afraid of the unknown; quite the opposite, in fact - he seeks it out to study and dissect. But the unknown is never completely unknown if there are rules you can set it to, and Lirit knows this, and fears the things that the rules don't fit. In a place full of a magic that he's only just starting to get his head round, this covers many more things than he'd like, including many of the other students. He's seen what they're capable of during the Halloween murders, after all. This fear is one reason for his careful politeness Lirit fears becoming helpless, whether it be in combat or any other situation. He particularly fears someone else he cares for dying. Linked to this is his fear of sickness or madness, whether in himself or others. He also finds people acting in a way unlike them unpleasant on a scale ranging from unnerving to very disturbing, and such an event is likely to prey on his mind for the rest of the day, if not longer. All aforesaid fears stem from his mother’s decline and death, though he also has nightmares about not understanding or being able to do something that everyone around him finds simple.

Strengths: Small localized hellfire - Up to two fires at a time, no more than a meter from his body. They require constant concentration to stay alight. With one flame this isn’t too hard, but two can’t be kept up for long in any but the most distraction-free environment. They can, however, reach quite high temperatures, making them useful in a laboratory setting. These bounds may increase or decrease as his abilities develop or his binding’s failsafes kick in.

General knowledge - His mother’s library was a large one, with an understandably larger percentage of books on magic and magical theory, and he had few other ways of spending his time, as the children in the nearby town were uniformly hostile. His memory isn’t very good but he has retained snippets of information about many seemingly random things, all of which he is all too willing to talk at length about. It’ll probably come in handy some day.

Weaknesses: Very limited channeling capability - His mother’s binding on him restricts his capability to channel magic through his body to small demonic flames. This means he is incapable of several of the school’s subjects, relying instead on symbols and sigils.

Physical weakness - not going out except to buy food in two years takes its toll. Lirit couldn’t win an arm-wrestling match with a toddler and is disinclined to any level of exercise above a brisk walk.

Goals: He doesn’t really know what his goals in life are yet. He’d like to learn more about magic and maybe learn how to apply it, though past that he’s not sure.

Personality: Generally a loner, Lirit is an inventor and experimenter by nature, happily risking his own life in the pursuit of a new contraption or experimental incantation. He’s friendly enough in a strange, usually-only-talks-to-himself sort of way, although some people may find his frequent, sometimes invasive questions tiring, if not downright rude. He also finds it difficult to accept the authority of people he doesn’t respect. Lirit isn’t really sure what a friendship entails so is likely to overcompensate or read too much into others’ actions.
He enjoys learning most things because the knowledge provides yet more ideas. However, when being taught things he doesn’t perceive as useful he doesn’t see the point of listening. He can be a little arrogant and patronising of others on occasion and he doesn’t always know his limits, as well as being just a little paranoid.

History:
Lirit is something like a test tube baby: his genes were combined magically by his mother, a very capable witch. She was eccentric but fairly kind to him, in her own way. She was also a loner, so left him largely to his own devices as he grew up. Any magical aptitude of his (short of very limited hellfire) was bound following an accident involving far too much delicate lab equipment. He went to school a few times, back when the signs of his ancestry were less obvious, and was teased and bullied about his strange, ‘crazy’ mother. The rest of his education was taken from his mother’s extensive library.

After a slow decline into bad health and depression his mother died of an illness when Lirit was 15, despite his desperate efforts to cure her. He brought himself up from then on. Living in his mother’s house without her there felt strange and he’d have preferred to move out, but there wasn’t really anywhere else he could think of going, until during one long lonely afternoon reading he came across a reference to a school of applied magic. It sparked his curiosity, and, after a day or so of research to discover its probable location, he set off, gladly leaving his home of sixteen years behind.

Misc. Information: He has two one-inch wing stubs on his back, another result of his demon ancestry.
He also has an exceedingly complicated web of symbols inked into the skin of his back, drawn by his mother when he was very young. They bind any powers of his, rendering him unable of channeling any but a very limited amount of magic through his body. Symbols and sigils, therefore, are required for any other than the smallest undertakings.
He carries a ragged little notebook around with him everywhere and uses it to take notes of just about everything that goes on. He’d be completely lost without it, as it also contains most of his reminders and he’s pretty forgetful.
He bites his nails when he’s nervous, excited or bored.
He has a pretty good singing voice. Not that he’d ever use it.
Nobody can find anything in a room inhabited by him for more than two weeks but him. He uses strange organizational systems unknown to anyone else; to others such a room looks like a dump, albeit one with a lot of meaningful-looking arrows and other symbols chalked between the inevitable piles of stuff.
He’s got a sturdy constitution, but he gets terribly seasick, sometimes even when the water is calm.
He tends to become more formal when nervous.

-Roleplay Information-
Chatroom Availability: School and homework can get in the way, but usually an hour or so a few weekday evenings and most of Friday, Saturday and Sunday. During holidays, 9 AM till late.
IM Availability: DeviantArt, Tumblr and email (gmail, same username) is pretty much all I have. Definitely no Skype or Facebook, but I’m happy to make an account on another chatting site if necessary.
How did you find #OtherWorlde?: Sorry, I can’t remember D:

Script Sample:
(I’ve always used paragraphs before, so I’ll probably make mistakes. Sorry in advance).

Lirit: *Lirit’s breath blooms in front of his face as the new snow crunches beneath his shoes. The day is a cold one, especially so early in the morning, and he has left his coat in the study. But the errand he is on is not one that can wait* *he scowls contemptuously, remembering the weather report of the previous day* Charlatans. Cloudy with a chance of rain, my - *he cuts himself short as a twig cracks underneath one foot and looks up, suddenly alert. Here the smooth whiteness is shaded blue by dark conifers, peppered here and there by the withered tips of grass clumps* *Lirit dips his head to avoid a snow-laden branch and proceeds, more cautious now, scanning the bleak landscape. There - a dash of colour, bright against the winter-scorched brown of a fallen bough. He hurries towards it, rubbing his fingers together frantically to get the numbness out, then plunging them into the snow just next to the branch, scooping quick handfuls out of the way*
*it’s a few minutes before his anxious expression relaxes into a smile of relief. Carefully, slowly, he lifts the precious plant out of what he had been sure was its grave, cupping its delicate fronds in his chapped hands. It has bloomed: the tiny petals seem to be lit from behind despite the dim dawn light* *with eyes only for his cherished burden, he begins the long walk back to the house*

Paragraph Sample:

It had been easier to find than he’d thought it would. Yes, it had taken Lirit years to find even a cryptic description of Otherworlde Castle, yet the more he found out about it the more he started to find references to it everywhere - just the subtlest of hints, maybe referring to a skeleton house or, in the more puritanical texts, rather disturbing babble about a demonic institution of subverted knowledge and vice, but references nonetheless. He dismissed the latter texts, however, as more of the overzealous ranting so popular among the religious magic-dabblers of the 1600s, all too eager to prove that their ‘miracles’ were sent by God and not from the other direction. Who would attend a school like that, anyway? he’d thought, setting the tome in question aside with an incredulous snort.
Well...
As he studied the castle’s daunting exterior his suspicions rose. Were those many gargoyles strictly necessary? Not to speak of the dormitories’ ominous construction. Of course he had drawn certain inferences regarding the academy’s morality; he’d had to, as all but said extreme authors had neatly avoided the subject, although a disquieting passage referring to ‘death rates’ had caused him not a little concern. Still, he most certainly hadn’t expected quite this level of -
He stepped through the entrance and all qualms were instantly forgotten. The sculptures, the pillars - all the riddles and vague allusions came together here. “Yes - yes, the woodcuts were right!” he exclaimed aloud, hurrying from feature to feature. And there, in the middle of the room, the book. Just as it had been written who knew how many hundreds of years ago...
A voice close to his ear jerked him out of his reverie and he realized with a twinge of sadness that he couldn’t turn back now. For the past two years he’d had to be content with obscure mentions of the magical, the - he smiled - otherworldly. How could he pass up a chance to be part of that side of reality again?
He signed a fresh page with fingers trembling in excitement. He could hardly wait.

Please update your application with new classes and your new level (Advanced, if you did your assignments, stay at Intermediate if you didn't). Please take into account whether you did the assignments for your current classes when figuring out your new ones or your level - if you didn't do them, you can't take higher level classes, etc

Please reply to this message when you've updated your app so I can update it on the student directory, thanks! Please note this must be done by March 31, but ASAP is better!!
