Alternately, Alice never returning home could be a divergence that takes place before the fateful encounter with the Queen of Hearts. If Alice had stayed at one of the previous stops in her journey, like at the Mad Tea Party, or if she just decided to skip part visiting the Queen, she wouldn't have gotten into the frantic chase scene that shook her from the dream. Without that harrowing finale, she might just continue to live in her dream eternal.
