A Way With Lights And A Meet With phantastico

:bulletpink: Q. You are an equine artist. What makes that special for you on a personal level?

Equine art is special to me because unlike a lot of young girls, horses were never just a phase for me. I always wanted a horse of my own when I was little, and my parents were constantly telling me that I'd grow out of it, especially once I got to see how much work and time a horse required. They leased me a horse to ride, and I loved him to death. I rode him for two years, and even after his owner had him moved away and I had to quit riding, I still loved horses. My love for them lives on today, and it's still my goal to own a couple of my own someday.

After I lost my horse, I later joined deviantArt and pretty quickly found my niche - the Equine Art Community. I began like anyone else, just making images very sloppily and with no thought to details and lighting, shadows and realism. It was simply a way for me to be around horses in the only way I could. It wasn't til later on that I started adding more realistic themes to my work,  do my best to improve in every area of manipulating. I still feel a close connection to this particular genre as my love and passion for horses has never faded. Creating my own personalized characters has become a way for me to have a horse without having a real horse. I would also like to point out that manipulating has become a creative outlet for me now. In my beginning days, it was a connection to horses; now it's a way for the artist in me to be set free and have a chance to create something. It's such a rewarding hobby, in the end.

:bulletpink: Q.  The theme for PhotoManipulation month is Illumination. I really love the way you use light in your deviations. Can you explain why you rely so much on light ?

Light is definitely important in my manips. I have to locate a light source and then correctly illuminate both the background and the horse, even trying to shade the manes and tails accordingly. Without giving each aspect its lighting, the sense of unity and realism of the piece is completely lost. Light is just one of the most important elements of making a piece stand out. It can be either a dark-themed image, or a light-themed image, but either way there is usually some sort of lighting that adds spice and flavor to an image. Lighting can symbolize emotion, both the good and bad, or even more abstract things like dwindling hope, or lost love. Without light, my images would lose a lot of their impact, and the intricacy of the work itself would be lessened immensely.

:bulletpink: Q.  Would you please select your favorite deviation from your own gallery and tell us your thought processes as you were creating it?

This is probably my favorite piece in my gallery at the moment. When I was making this, I was really trying to capture a moment from the movie Pocahontas. I was incorporating a couple of characters, one of my own and one of alimarije's, who were falling in love. I thought John Smith and Pocahontas represented these two characters very well, not to mention I just love that movie. The lighting for it was full of blue and purple hues and is basically what unites the subjects and brings the entire piece together. I just love this piece though, it's one of the few I look at and can't find much to nit pick.

:bulletpink: Q. Would you now share with us 5 of  your favorite deviantions in your gallery.

I like sunsets a lot.
