Story

Dakota was also selected from our dogs to come along for the ride. Though sadly, he was far too big to be allowed in a seat along with me and Tessa. It broke my heart to see him carried away in his dog carrier. If only. Sigh. I thought about him most of the trip. Poor thing, probably scared out of his mind. I'd surely make it up to him once we got there. Give him lots of lovins and treats. Tell him that he was a brave boy. Little did I know that once we landed and they carted him out, he looked completely traumatized. I felt horrible. That's it...no more airplanes unless it's entirely necessary.
It took a bit of bribing and soft words before he came out of his carrier once we got to the hotel. He certainly showed much affection when he finally came out. Giving me a soft whimper and a heavy, paw digging into flesh, hug. Ouch. I comforted him as much as I could until I began to yawn tiredly. We really aught to be getting some sleep about now. In the morning would be the show!
Just as I expected, Dakota was quite the attention hog. Other people came up and petted him and told me how gorgeous he was. In turn I told them how traumatized he was taking the plane trip, and other little social stories. Mentioned that this was his first show. They politely offered me good luck and nice words, and in turn I thanked them and wished them well too. Boy was there stiff competition. Other beautiful dogs just as handsome and pretty as Dakota was. I almost began to dread coming. This competition was going to be a challenge, but Dakota looked eager for it.
When it was our turn, I pranced that lovely husky of ours to the line. He was a natural! His gait was smooth and almost seemed as if he were floating from the ground. A glimmering smile creased over his face. Just like Tessa when she was showing her stuff. I couldn't help but smile too. We all then took our places and got into the stance. I had to move a few of his legs to the proper placement, but thankfully once I put them there, he kept it in place. The judge checked dog after dog. Closer he got, the more my heart began to race. I felt like I was trembling. Nervous when I shouldn't be. Dakota wasn't nervous, why should I? I closed my eyes and took some breaths. Trying to relax myself. Surely the dog sensed what I was feeling and took a glance at me. He looked at me as though he were concerned. I leaned down some and offered him a treat to put his pose back in place. Get his attention on standing like a gentleman than worrying about his owner having a bit of a panic attack. The judge was on us now. Walking over and checking Dakota's form. I kept giving him some treats to chew on from my fingers. Making sure he wouldn't loose composure and see who was touching him. Within moments it was over. The judge nodded some and looked rather pleased and asked us to demonstrate Dakota's gait for him. "Come on Dakota, come on," I got his attention and we both began to trot into an oval shape. This boy made me proud. If he won...or lost...I'd still be so proud. The judge nodded again and moved on. Ohhhh I hope we did good!
