Deviation Actions
I wanted one of my favorite conceptual artists to be in this series of interviews for PhotoManipulation month, but I wasn't quite sure what to ask. I wanted to know more concerning how he comes up with the concepts behind his deviations, which run from conceptual, surreal, and dark. I also wanted to know his thoughts on conceptual art.
This is a short interview, but I hope it opens up the world of :devcrille50: for you.
Q. Can you tell us what are your thought process for creating images.
I don't have much of a thought process when I do manipulations. I often scroll trough the stock images section here on DA and see a object, model, or whatever I like and a idea pops up in my head. Sometimes a idea comes from a movie or another work from another work I've seen.
I like to keep my work fairly simple for two reasons; I like simplicity and I'm not an expert on photoshop. So I think it's better to put the power to contrasts between light and shadow to get more drama in the picture.
Q. What is Dark Art to you?
For me, dark art is something scary or mysterious, not directly horror just something before the very horror. It can be about the future that you don't know anything about. Simply, thoughts that's scare you a bit.
It doesn't matter if the picture is bright or dark or colorful, for me it can be dark anyway.
One more thing. Earlier this year I had asked :devcrille50: for his definition of conceptual art. His answer:
I'm not quite sure if I know what conceptual art is really. If I think logically about it, for me, it should be a specific thing, person or whatever that has other things around it, associated to each other. One specific object surrounded with similar more diffuse objects. If you understand how I mean.
Thank you :devcrille50: for the interview. Below are the selection of the favorite deviations in his gallery:

An Overview of Manga Throughout the Years
What is manga?Manga are original Japanese comic books, the name coming from two kanji combined: "man" meaning whimsical or impromptu, and "ga" meaning picture. Over the years, they've evolved into a more sophisticated style of novel, as well as being the basis for anime shows and many video games as well!
Pre World War IIThe history of manga starts in the 12th century with scrolls, which is where the right to left reading style originated.
During the Edo Period (1603-1867), Toba Ehon, a book of drawings embedded the concept of manga was created:

Anime and Manga week
1. Introduction
In 2009 I took Japanese lessons and next to me was a girl drawing manga characters. I watched her draw and it looked like magic to me, seeing how she made a character appear out of nowhere. This was the key moment in which I decided that I wanted to learn that craft too and create my own characters!
Many manga artists have had similar key moments, for most it was watching their favourite anime or reading an awesome manga or even playing a Japanese videogame. However I have seen many aspiring mangakas give up at the beginner stage, believing they simply sucked at drawing.

Otherwise, my inbox is always open if you have any specific questions!

How to create a foggy atmosphere
This is a small tutorial explaining how to create a foggy atmosphere. I will be using my artwork "The Witch" as reference.
Artwork without fog
First you need a clouds/smoke texture. Preferably one that is larger than your artwork. You could also use the clouds filter in Photoshop (Filter/Render/Clouds) but I prefer a real photo for a more realistic look.

This is the stock photo that I used. It’s from Deposit Photos, but no worries, we got plenty of excellent ones right here on DeviantART. Here's just a few of them:
