Background Pony Fan Art - Alabaster and Penumbra

Between working on commissions and massive college projects sometimes I just need to do something outside of work for a change and a brain breather. After finishing up reading Background Pony I decided to do some more conceptual fan art. This is how I imagined Alabaster and Penumbra from the story. This was hand drawn then scanned then digitalized.

For Alabaster's design, given that he is a professor from Whinnypeg (lolz) I decided to give him an older distinguished look complete with blazer. Being a sarosian I gave him bat ears, and for his eyes, I took the story's term "slit eyes" literally and it wasn't until an hour ago re-watching Luna Eclipsed to get color ideas from the guards that I noticed they had slitier pupils. But I like this look, especially his hair and cutie mark.

I dunno, for Penumbra I always imagined her with a golden coat, and being a horticulturalist I always pictured her with Carrot Top's design, but on various second glances I'm not sure if the design works or not, but whatevs.

"Penny" always loved to play with "Al's" ears.
