It hadn’t been your decision, definitely not. Your pet and friend (__p/n__) had passed away only a month ago and here your mom was driving you to the local animal shelter to “find a new friend.” The closest one to you, and the one you were going to, focused specifically on cats from what your mom told you.  Some might call it silly, but you felt it betrayal to get a new pet after such a short time. It felt as if you were replacing your fallen companion with someone new. Too bad no one cared about your opinion.

“(__f/n__), stop moping. I’m doing this for your honey.” You refused to answer your mom, staring out the window for the remainder of the trip without a single word to anyone.

The animal shelter itself was rather nice. It was clean, spacious, and what really scored points with you was the ‘no-kill’ policy. The blonde-haired, green-eyed woman that looked in the early twenties sent a warm smile towards you and your mother. You tried your best to return it but only succeeded in twitching your straight lips. The woman, undeterred by your less than promising greeting, arose from her seat behind the white desk to shake your mother’s and your hands.

“Welcome to the Nekotalia Animal Shelter!” ‘What a unique name,’ you thought to yourself, taking a closer look at the woman. “My name is Bella!” Upon closer inspection, you noticed that Bella’s mouth was shaped into a smile similar to that of a cat’s. Quite odd when you thought about it, but you didn’t question it.

Your mother was so kind as to introduce the both of you, considering you were planning on holding out the silent treatment as long as possible. Bella led the two of you down a small hallway, the entire facility rather quiet without the presence of barking dogs. The occasional meow could be heard as you passed doors until you arrived to a large door, Bella opening for you and your mom to enter.

In most shelters, the cats are kept in their own little cages so they don’t roam around or escape, but coming into this room revealed a large group of free-roaming kitties. A smaller area was penned off and on closer observation you noticed a few kittens frolicking around. What you found absolutely adorable though, were three cats in particular over by the kittens.

One looked like a Scottish Fold with rather bushy eyebrows; another was a long-haired white Persian. Those two seemed watchful attentive on two of the kittens in particular. The two kittens were both white with fluffy neck manes and what looked like ahoges on their heads, although one’s mane was a dark grey and the other one’s a light brownish-tan. The Persian would run off occasionally, but the orange Scottish Fold didn’t seem to take his eyes off those kittens for more than a few moments. He also glanced occasionally at a third kitten – a white kitten with brown paws, ears, face, and tail tip.

“Yao, stop that!” Bella shouted, startling you as you watched her run over to the kitten pen. She breezed by the Scottish Fold, picking up a dark brown cat with what looked like a ponytail up from the pen – the third cat you had been looking at. As you had already noticed, the cat had jumped into the pen (with great difficulty) and immediately dashed over to two kittens. One he had lifted into his mouth – a white, fuzzy kitten with a collar already on her that contained small, pink flower. Another kitten had pounced on his back – one with assorted black spots on his tail and body and a strange curl protruding from his little head.

The adult cat, Yao, had been trying to get them out until Bella neatly plunked him from the pen and removed both kittens from him; something he was obviously annoyed with but did not try again. You couldn’t help but giggle at the whole predicament, it was so darn cute! Your mother took that as a positive sign, nudging into the room and informing you how she would wait at the front.

Upon entering the room, Bella returned her attention to you. “Go ahead and look around! I actually have some things I need to do in here so don’t be afraid to ask me a question!” With that, Bella left you to yourself and moved over to the kitten pen.

You awkwardly shifted about in the same spot as you watched the cats go about their daily business. There was so much variety not in just looks, but personality as you overlooked the group. How could you ever decide?
I thought it'd be fun to do a little Nekotalia x Reader series just because. ^-^

I intend to do oneshots of bringing home one individual cat, and then adopting in pairs if I still have interest and ideas. I honestly had no reason to put the little Iggy/Yao/Francis bit in there, it just popped into my mind and thought it was a cute bit of fluff. :3 Japan wasn't one of the kittens because I feel he would be closer to China's age than kitten by car standards.

Yes, I am aware that some of the names (such as Hong Kong's, Taiwan's, and Monaco's) are not official, but I wanted to include them. I chose Monaco's after looking on a site and finding that Grace was popular name in Monaco. Camille seems to be used a lot too, but I don't really think it fits her. :iconidontloveitplz:

If you want me to do a cat/pairing that isn't on here, I'd be happy to! :3
