The Gargoyle Boy

MY RANTS:
My this took quite a while to complete! But I am content with the results. Recently brought back my box of color pencils, so I definitely took advantage of that! (My commissions now include color pencil art too!)
This is a mix media art: Color Pencils and Photoshop for EPIC lighting effects. (The architecture part of this work was inspired by Barcelona Cathedral.)

WHY?:
I am mostly hoping that by participating in these contests, I may achieve more recognition, hopefully getting some commissions which would truly truly help me out ALOT! I've gone from PayPal, to allowing points too, lowering my prices, doing my best to advertise and participate within the Deviantart community, and even picking up the "adopt for points" culture, since my creating concept character contests have been going quite successfully.

We had to create a new character inspired by Tim Burton's "Nightmare Before Christmas". I really liked drawing gargoyles because you can give them that ancient, crumbling, glossy stone texture. I tried my bed to create a blend of my style and Tim B's ( what with including the gaunt features, thin limbs, and big circle eyes with dark circles around them.

LE STORY?:
The story behind this character I guess is a young teenage gargoyle boy. Of course being the adventurous and curious gargoyle that he is, he often tries to step off his post and try to get as close to the crowded bustling streets as possible. This got him in trouble, and consequently he was chained to his post to keep him on his guarding duties. Poor gargoyle boy now sits their all alone save for the mysterious little lighting bugs that bustle around the hanging lamp and glass window. If you haven't noticed already, there is a huge crack forming by his feet, if that ledge cracks off, his chains would still be attached to that ledge and 'kerplunk' he goes. Of course this leads on to a whole new adventure! But for now I will let you "imagineer" a continuing story for yourself. ( I may or may not run away with this idea, but I'm starting to really like this character so who knows! ^x^ )
