Snowlit prologue

The night sky shined brightly. Millions of stars scattered all over the place as far as I could see. My hand lightly scraped through the thin layers of ice on my sides. Why was I laying out in the middle of a snow field, that I did not have an answer to. My name?  Abby Walker, Fifteen years old and the president of the Lockwood country. You might not want to ask me how I got the position, or why I was given it at such a young age. Really, in my mind, it made no difference. Having the experience of over thousands of years helped along the way somehow. Yet here, I was starring at the night sky, in the midst of the Christmas month, and I felt utterly empty in a way.

"Abby you'll catch a cold like that you know." I sat up, letting snow fall off my back. Sasha stood up beside me, her blue eyes bright and intimidating in every way. Sasha was my girlfriend, same age, a few  months older. She, being my girlfriend, took the position of first lady, similar to second command, if you hadn't counted the other leaders of the academy. I live here,  I  ruled here, and  yet, I couldn't shake this empty feeling as if something was missing.

And my room. The one on the top floor, at the end of the hall. The window was  large, running from the ground up, with dark curtains. A bed, behind it a closet, next to that off to the left was the bathroom. And across from my bed was my computer and desk, with door towards the storage  room. Somehow, none of this felt real to me, not in the slightest. I pulled my fingers over my fangs inside of my mouth. Moving them along to the tip. What was I, who was I, and why am I not dead?
