Hello, fellow bronies.
We all know that Princess Celestia has shown herself to be a compassionate ruler, a caring sister to Princess Luna, and a good teacher to Twilight Sparkle. She's beloved by all. She raises and sets the sun, while Luna moves the moon. They say there were meant to rule Equestria together.
After "The Crystal Empire," though, leaves me thinking about something that may disturb you all.
Princess Celestia must have had some questions: why should she have to share the throne with Luna? She has enough power to lift both the sun and the moon all by herself. She's the oldest foal of the family. She should be the sole heir. What were her parents thinking?
Perhaps she wasn't like that when she was a filly... But when she became a teenager, it was most likely that King Sombra "opened her eyes" to what he called "reality." He filled her with fear, anger, and hate, and made her suffer. And thus, he took her in as his apprentice, both intent of destroying every trace of the self-righteous Elements of Harmony and end "war, corruption, and suffering" throughout Equestria.
After years of her apprenticeship under Somba, Celestia began making her own plans to rule Equestria by herself. First, she would need to kill Sombra, seize his Alicorn Amulet, and then use its power to eliminate Luna once and for all. Yes, I know it's cruel, but being Queen requires sacrifice.
Of course, things don't always go exactly according to plan.
Celestia wasn't strong enough to destroy Sombra, so she had to improvise. Her dark presense well hidden, she and Luna banished the dark king for a thousand years. Sombra felt a burning resentment for Celestia's betrayal ever since.
Shortly after, with Sombra locked away, Celestia looked in her former master's hidden study for the Alicorn Amulet. But it was nowhere to be found. Sombra was clever enough to hide his most prized weapon away from his apprentice. Cursing herself for acting too hastily, Celestia nevertheless studied more of the dark arts. She knew that if she were to find the Amulet's location, she would have to learn after ripping Sombra's horn from his rotting corpse.
Then, she secretly brainwashed Luna and turned her into Nightmare Moon. Did she use the Elements of Harmony to banishing her to the moon, like in Twilight's book? No, she could not touch the Elements after subjecting herself to Sombra's teachings. In fact, she had to use all those advanced spells Sombra had taught her to do the job. She got what she wanted, even if it was just for a millennium. She could afford to wait until she got her hoofs on the Alicorn Amulet. Then, she would be queen.
Thus, the myth of the two sisters became the publicly accepted story for years to come. Even Nightmare Night was available after that. Celestia secretly took pride in personally arranging Luna's total makeover. It certainly played on everypony's fears. She became an icon to all the masses of Equestria, who never saw through the mask of their beloved princess. Fools.
For a thousand years, she looked desparately for somepony with the potential to find the Alicorn Amulet. So far, there was no luck. But then, almost a decade before the release of Nightmare Moon, she found Twilight Sparkle. The poor filly was about to become a pawn in Celestia's game. In her mind, children were stupid enough to believe anything.
With all those studies keeping Twilight occupied, Celestia raised the curtains for her show of deception and fears, opening with her "family reunion." Yes, she would resume on sharing the throne with Luna, but it was worth it.
Since Twilight wanted to stay in Ponyville, Celestia, seeing that this would work to her advantage, assigned her those "lessons of friendship" to keep her distracted from what the Princess was doing in Canterlot. She read what the "faithful student" and her pitiful friends had to say over the seasons, but only when she was bored. She was making the brilliant Twilight more and more naive to what was going to happen in the future. When Luna returned, she wouldn't remember what her treacherous big sister had done to her.
Then came the unexpected return of Discord, who now knew too much of Celestia's facade. He had to be turned back into a statue and fast. But then, he seemed to be too conceited in his own world of chaos to tell anything. Nonetheless, he gave a tiny, but fatal hint to Rainbow Dash: they would see about how long she would remain loyal to Celestia, either by his own tricks or worse... a premature revelation. All those letters from the first season she sent back to Twilght was a way to remind her not to give up. She needed him to silence Discord. She would have to deal with those brats, the so-called "Cutie Mark Crusaders," later for setting that maniac free.
As for Shining Armor and Princess Cadence's wedding, Celestia knew that Queen Chrysalis infiltrated Canterlot. She even saw through her disguise, but said nothing. She did well to hide a smile when she saw Twilight use her instincts. When Queen Chrysalis revealed herself, Celestia played the public hero and restrained herself from unleashing the full extent of her power, lest the guests and bridesmaids discover her dark nature. So she had to lower her power to make it look like she was losing. She wanted to test her false aura to repell Cadence and Shining Armor's love blast. Living in that chrysalis was disgusting, but it was worth it. She envied the Queen of the Changlings for being sole ruler of her territory. Fortunately, that would soon pass.
When the Crystal Empire returned, Celestia knew King Sombra would be there as well. Fortunately, one thousand years could reduce somepony's sanity and render him unable to remember much of his old life. Such was the case of Sombra. There was just one catch, though: once the dark king got a hold of the Empire and regain the rest of his memory, he would make Celestia pay dearly for her betrayal. It was now or never. Twilight would have to take another of her "tests" so that she could finish what Celestia started and then continue to "the next level of her studies." The bigger the distraction, the more time Celestia would have on studying Sombra's horn. She risked leaking a small measure of her dark power to Twilight, in order to show her the way to the Crystal Heart. For all her brilliance, Twilight was far too trusting of her mentor; otherwise, she would've discovered the truth.
Now, King Sombra was dead and his horn was secretly in Celestia's grasp. Using psychometry - an ability that could "read memories" from an inanimate object - she was able to find where her former master hid the Alicorn Amulet. She was so elated that she felt like laughing in triumph. But she knew not to rush like she did while betraying Sombra. She wouldn't dare go buy the Amulet herself at the shop. Everypony would recognize her. And she couldn't even send Twilight to do it. She'd know from the proprietor of what the Amulet was. Then, she found just the pony who could desperately want to get her own back at Twilght: the Great and Gullible Trixie. Disguising herself as an old beggermare, Celetia showed up at the rock farm where Trixie worked and whispered to her about a powerful amulet. She gave her a picture of the Amulet, a bag of gold, and directions to the shop.
Celestia counted on Twilight to lead her to the Amulet after tricking Trixie to give it up. She watched the whole scene on Ponyville from above, keeping her eyes on that precious item and its unlimited power. Somrba was a genius. She knew where to find it, even if Twilight was trying to hide it.
At last, after all those years of searching, the Alicorn Amulet is hers. All that's left for her is to kill Luna and Equestria will be all hers. But she is patient. It's just the matter of waiting for the proper moment to strike. She has to practice the Amulet's capabilities, after all. Once she has mastered it, the final phase of her plan will be complete. Not even the Elements of Harmony, which have been indirectly useful in the past - she let Twilight and the Mane Six use then, since she can't use them again - can stop her now.
As to why Celestia had thought about releasing Discord from his statue prison, there could be two major reasons:
*Another distraction for the Elements of Harmony so that she could practice more on the Alicorn Amulet;
*And finding use for Discord once she has complete control of Equestria.
Since Discord could hear every word Celestia would say - even if he was a statue - she knew that he was still a threat. Therefore, before setting the dragonesque to Ponyville, she warned him that if he said one word about her plans... she'd kill him: fear did its job of shutting him up for good. Also, she whispered that the Ponyville Library had a reforming spell in one of its books; she suggested to Discord that he'd eat it. With the power of the Alicorn Amulet, she'd be able to withstand such a spell anyway, but knew she had to take precautions. She had indeed counted on Fluttershy to door her kindness on Discord, so that she could now have him do her bidding.
Finally, in Twilight's latest development as a Princess, Celestia already knew the answer, yet didn't bother to tell her "most faithful student." She had seen Twilight's future from the very beginning. She expected Twilight to accidentally quote the words from Starswirl the Beard's last lesson, as her way of hearing what she read would make her understand the context. The Elements of Harmony were in disarray, but Celestia could keep on making Twilight more and more trusting of her pitiful friends. Once again wearing her mask of purity, she glowed her horn to make as if she was conjuring up the transformation and allowed the spell to take its own course on Twilight.
Princess Twilight Sparkle may be an alicorn now, but she's a much bigger pawn in Celestia's game. Perhaps, one day, she will want to understand more of the dark arts, abandon the weaknesses of "friendship," and become what Celestia was to Sombra. But that could possibly end up with the apprentice destroying the master and renew the cycle generation after generation. If that's what it takes to create an empire of order, then so be it. After all, Celestia has lots of uses for Princess Twilight in the future...
So far, this is my theory. It may sound crazy, but Celestia may be showing herself to be the Emperor Palpatine (Darth Sidious) of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. And Sombra? We would have to refer to him as the show's Darth Plagueis, as in Sidious' master. In Shakespeare's realm, Celestia would've been perfect for the leading role of Richard III. LOL
What do you think? Any objections? Any useful commentary?

Nephew No. 3
That is correct, my friends! Early this morning, a new baby nephew has arrived in Michigan! :w00t: His name's Basil (pronounced in the American fashion), and boy does he look cute! :aww: My folks will be staying to watch over Catherine while she's at the hospital, leaving and I in charge. Dad shall return first in a few days, followed soon after by Mom. Makes me wish I was in Michigan again. Oh, the boisterous and inquisitive nieces and nephews… We'd be spending a lot of time watching March Madness together. :D
Happy 32nd!
First off, thank you so much for the many wishes and early birthday presents. Means a lot. To celebrate my birthday, I lunched to Five Guys right after work. Got a few extra fries from my friends. She's really sweet. For the cake, we have a nice layered Devil's Food with mostly blue sprinkles on the slice with my name on it. :hungry: And as to the presents: A birthday card with a pug on it and some $50 inside A black Duluth Henley And There Was Light: Abraham Lincoln and the American Struggle by John Meacham My sweet sister has yet to finish her gift to me. Ah, well. I'm willing to wait a week. :D I know it's too late to ask for points or something, but it might be a nice gesture from those who have loads of them. Maybe next year? This Christmas? ;p
Happy 2024!!!
I'm really liking the new year so far. :D To those of you who didn't see the Rose Bowl Parade, you don't know what you're missing out on. There was a float of a dragon and her baby, a Blues Brothers float with plenty of dudes in the usual Blues Brothers getup and Michelle Williams! Look how they made their floats: genuine flower material! Never got to see an actual Rose Bowl until now. First time I heard of it was from Little Shop of Horrors! :wow: Looks rather promising, 2024. Happy New Year, everyone! :w00t:
Christmas of 2023
Before I begin, let me say that we all got an early Christmas gift (at least in New England). The Patriots have had a very hard season, and yesterday they got managed to beat the Denver Broncos 26 to 23. My prayers have been answered! :w00t: For today, I got some quality presents: 1. A T-shirt with King Clawthorne and Francois :squee: 2. A nice long shirt with a pocket 3. Founding Brothers: The Revolutionary Generation by Joseph Ellis 4. Sherlock Holmes: The Complete Novels and Stories, Volumes 1 and 2 5. Keen hiking shoes boxed especially by Deluth Trading Co. Any more gifts I might receive from the mail, I shall keep you updated. :D In the meantime, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! :xmas:

Well... this is interesting. xD It made for an interesting read, but i had to seriously suspend my disbelief about Discord. Celestia is willing to kill her own kin (according to this), why would she let Discord live? If i were her in this scenario, i would have kill him without mercy. xD But still, i imagined Nightmare Star all through the reading
